Reviews for "One Button Vania"

this game would have functioned so much better as a standard platformer instead of whatever this is.

crap this gets annoying fast. I'm sorry but it looked like it would've been really good.

A+ for idea, but it just comes off as annoying in this game so D for execution. good looking game but too annoying to play.

Missing a jump should not be a mistake that takes 2 rooms worth of walking to correct.

Please allow me to explain my low rating. I'm sorry, but this game had so much wasted potential. If you do make a second one, I have a few suggestions, and also some criticism, so here we go... You should make it a little more fair, or at least add a difficulty curve of some sort. The devil boss was impossible to dodge at times, and was downright repetitive. In fact, all the bosses were a little repetitive, so see if that is fixable. Every boss had some sort of major flaw, and I only state them in hopes that you can either fix them in this game, or make sure the flaws don't reappear in a sequel. The bat boss gave a false sense of difficulty. It's so quick and simple, it makes you think the game will have a nice difficulty curve that takes you slowly up into complex ideas and platforming, but things get difficulty right after you get to the devil, and it stays difficult. The pirate ship boss wasn't very difficult, and in fact you could just stand still and eventually (It did take a while though) some bombs could fall above the hand and hit it. It was also the most repetitive by far. I suggest it has some more attacks (cannons on the ship that shoot occasionally?), and make a different or secondary way of hitting it. The huge eye boss was the most frustrating. At first, it doesn't seem too hard, until you realize there is such little room for error. Make a single misclick or get hit once, and you are suddenly way behind, possibly to a point in which you can't catch up. Not too sure how to fix this, but I'm sure you can think of something. Maybe make the course longer, and require less laps, also put some checkpoints if you do so, because going back to the start when you die is horrific. Now the plant boss was actually the easiest in the game, not including the bat. As soon as you figure it out, it's just too simple. Maybe the boss could have some sort of attack where it sucks you closer, or shoots its tongue. Other ideas would be shooting petals/thorns, having him shoot forward after a delay, or other similar ideas. Just make sure that he has some sort of way of showing what he is about to do, and give the player enough reaction time. Then comes the final boss. He's often impossible to dodge, as it's sometimes hard to get into a position where you can hit a wall and turn around or jump over one of his attacks. Also, the sword was a little underused, and could use a few more ideas revolving around it, but this isn't too important because of the other interesting gimmicks you put in. Other than this, the platforming was solid most of the time, and the only major bug I ran into was instantly dying once after each respawn in a certain room. I think it was in the grass area, might want to see if you can find it. I hope all this feedback is helpful, and I hope you don't hate me for the low rating.
