I've been a member of this site for quite some time (boomboombangbang was my other account, lost its information unfortunately) and I've reviewed and gave feedback on tons of games. I'm a very critical person and very rarely do I ever give 5-star ratings to anything on this site, let alone adventure games released new and only this week.
For what this game tries to achieve, it does so perfectly. I was looking for a game that was slightly mysterious, maybe on the scary ambient side of things, but put the user in an awkward position of knowing nothing and learning how to figure it all out himself. I stumbled on this site hoping to find the rare diamond in the sand, and very luckily got what I came for--this game.
Many users on here feel like there is no plot and the game makes no sense, but it couldn't be farther from the truth. In fact, the story develops and plot thickens as you go along into the game. Sure it may be not clear at times, but in this case it's okay because of the style of the game chosen by the author. It seemed to be an intended purpose to keep the player open minded about things to come.
Another great feature about this game is the steady learning curve. The average player may come into this game thinking it's some sort of an action rpg where you move around, shoot and kill things, but soon realizes he has actually no idea how it's supposed to be played. And that sudden eureka moment when the player realizes how moving (or not moving) the player actually can make the character do something and change the environment around him in a way that is meaningful and fuels the progression of the game--to me, that is beautiful. It's a rare ability for video games nowadays to put the user in a situation where he can be gently pushed and nudged in the right direction, rather than being told how to play the game all at once.
The pacing and length of the game is okay too. I would have been very upset if the game was only a room long, and it seemed this way...but to my amazement it just kept on going and going. There was no abrupt end to the game, and of course this was accompanied by great meaningful music.
Thank you for making my day. I hope I may find more work from you. Keep it up!
