Reviews for "Good Citizen"

Pure genius, incredibly well made and the message gets through loud and clear

KiWiArts responds:

Yay

So
where can I sign up to become a cyborg for the government?

I'm serious, btw.

KiWiArts responds:

lol, you probably are already getting influenced already.
But that's just the controling part.

Sorry, can't help you with the cool superhuman part.
Besides they busier working on humanoid robots. xP

George Orwell's 1984. It all lies in the proliterate. But they will never realize they are being repressed. If the majority of the population won't rise up, mass revolution won't be possible.

Whelp, here I dive, into the mess of politics. First sections the video, second is politics.

Alright, so first, the music and animation worked well together. It was clean style of animation and it worked well with the theme you chose. The actual hand looked like you may have used another set of colors, not just black, it looked almost like it was a 3D model, or something. Anyway, other than that, the scene didn't change much, which I felt could have done more. Maybe you could have included other parts of the street scene as well? Other than that, the story had an interesting progression, starting out with the outside influence, and gradually working towards pointing out the grander influence the nebulous V.E.O.R.U.S. Inc. had. Ending, while, not as strong as I wanted, was adequate. (Honestly, a wide shot of more cameramen would have worked better, but once again, the hands blotting out the viewer's sight had its own... charm? effect really...)
This is where the video gets its points from me.

The politics.
One, fluoride. NOPE! Not gonna touch that year old touchstone. Secondly, the corporations. The video forgets it's run by actual people with actual morals. In addition, did I get you imply the 'corporations' were behind the JFK assassination? Really? Honestly, it seems like this person has a hell of a low opinion of the mass of humanity, and yet at the same time, believes every corporation has the presence of mind to all work in collusion. Saying they control everything is like saying the president runs America. Yes, they're in a very influential position, but no, they aren't all powerful. Why yes, a lot of people are being exploited due to their ignorance, and no, 'corporations' themselves aren't the only ones working with this. Education is a big subject that costs quite a lot, and everyone is for it. Although, given the current debt problem, I doubt it'll be taken care of anytime soon. As well, you act like people can willfully control corporations, they kinda can't. The author acts like a strong willed politician would be able to stand up to the corporatist lobby. They probably can't either, it's a strong lobby. The thing is, politics is far more finessed than how it's shown here. It is not as black and white as the video shows. (hah.) But seriously, there's more to it. Yes, some companies are voracious greedy assholes which pull in as much money as they can without a second though, but others seem to actually give a crap about things.

My point is... I guess... my point is... don't believe that a single collective controls your actions. There are hundreds of collectives all vying for your tiny amount of influence in the world, and some are ready to do as many underhanded things as it is possible to get what they want, or what they think is right. And these collectives? They're made of people. People with families and friends. Some people truly believe in what they're doing, for others it's a paycheck. Politics is messy. And sometimes, you're gonna wish it was this black and white. But it's not. And it'll never be like that.
Oh well.

KiWiArts responds:

You are right in most of your points if it wasn’t a cynical short. But as I told a few other people already, you have to pay attention to not literally interpret a cynical short. The references need to be thought about. The point of the short is to raise awareness, not to educate with detailed facts.

You didn’t get the message of the short if you really think it’s about Black and White. The short concludes that’s not about finger pointing even if it seems so at the beginning. It’s an intentional artistic choice to make it look like was at first (black and white color scheme/content). It’s an indirect critique of the human condition of finding issues in others before finding it in ourselves.

And yeah, I’m aware that real people are running corporations. But it’s not about the corporations being bad. It’s the corporations’ nature to try to gain more and more power until they have the sole control and establish a monopole. That’s why they need to be in check. But that’s the problem in our society we keep feed that corporate machine and build our lifes up on it and eventually wonder why it ends up having so much control over us.

To your point that you think everyone is human even the people on top:
Sure, I totally agree that they also care for their families and have human desires. Problem is wealth and power tends to corrupt. Just look how policemen have the tendency to abuse their power. The Stanford-Prison-Experiment is the perfect example.
Besides you would be surprised how many of the top people end up sitting on their wealth instead of investing it back into the economy.

To your point that I imply that one politician can make a difference:
I think my short shows clearly that one person CANT’T, even if that politician happens to wake up and try to stand up to the establishment.

All those problems were once know but in our comfort and with our chronic amnesia we tend to forget.

In the end the short is designed to be up for interpretation. So don’t take it as a literal message.
Nevertheless thank you for your extended review. : )

remain vigilant by being knowledgeable? This videos as stupid as the rest, you can't do anything, you a mouse in a snake pit. Even with all the knowledge of the underlying infrastructure of the snakes biology, the snake will still devour the mouse.

KiWiArts responds:

I got to correct you it's more like 99 mice and one snake. And the reason why they get devoured is because they are unaware of their collective power.
