Reviews for "Project Hacker"

Good... (Only because I'm in it..)

Thomashut responds:

Well your lucky, If I make a Hacker two you may not be in it ;) I was thinking about doing a second one as a collage side project
Also I'm sorry to say but pointless reviews arn't looked brightly upon, the rest of the internet is here and you posting a pointless review may anger some of them. Plus I already have a review from you and a 10 point list on how to make it better

I don't mind the black and white look. It could be good if you were aiming for a noir feel. But many of the windows aren't drawn neat. I feel that there's too little detail in the surrounding, and so I have no idea of where I am. Without context, I have no idea if those squares are windows, or the lines are a street. Having the text type out when mousing over something is annoying. I'd prefer it if the text popped up in a tooltip, or maybe filled up a box at the bottom so I could know about the object immediately.

This....door

(yes I got that)

cannot...be

( :( )

opened

Instead of all at once "I can't open this door." in a box. Instant. I read really fast, so I like text to be instant or have a varying speed.

Sorry, but there's so little detail that I have no idea what to do. It took me about a minute and a half to realize the dashes in the beginning weren't a code, and were actually a street. Then I got to...I have no idea where I am. Also, in a point and click game, having a fight is a little strange if there's no option to use background objects in the fight. (ala Johnny Rocketfingers).

I'm sorry if this comes up as a 'hater' vote, but I can't figure out what to do and the style has me completely uninterested.

Thomashut responds:

Thank you for the feedback. I have had similar comments about the game many times before and I understand what you mean. Some of the play testers sometimes had a hard time determining what was what. I am mostly to blame for that one though. I will admit art and design is not my strong suit and this entire game was drawn by me. If I were to make a follow up to this game I would consider either getting a professional or someone who is at least alright at drawing to do the background and graphics.

As for the tool tip idea, I will defiantly think about incorporating it into my next point and click game. It was not something I have thought of but now thinking about it the tool tip would be a brilliant idea to speed up game-play and make interactive things a lot more easier to spot.

Thank you though for the constructive feedback. I am still learning the many 'tricks of the trade' so it may be sometime before I produce something amazing but each failed attempt and problem is another lesson.
