Reviews for "Beat Chaser 2"

Using music for difficulty is really enjoyable, especially if you use a song that has small lulls or rapidly changing tempos, or just a plainly awesome song to go into a (colourful) battle with. Though using a rather fast song will pretty much result in a dozen lost lives on one song.

I'd prefer a top-down shooter though, but that's just me being used to those games more.

Although I would like a "playlist" mode where you could go against a series of songs.

In all, it's a simple game, but it does well for what it sets out to do.

Stumbled upon this game on the "popular" section of Newgrounds. What drew me in to play the game immediately was the art style, which gave an impression of a promising game. When I started playing it, It was confusing at first, the after images of the bullets and the changing speed of the game took some time to get used to, but resulted in a pretty fun experience.

One thing that I would have liked was the ability to use the keyboard to control the character during the game. I also think that the inclusion of an indicator to the side of the screen would be added, so one would know the location of the enemy while focusing on dodging the bullets in the fast paced runs.

The music that was already in the game was a bit "meh", but it worked for the game, and was also redeemed by the fact that you can use your own music. The speed of the game adjusted near perfectly to the custom music, which I find pretty impressive. A thing that i did find lacking was the lack of sound effects.

Last but not least, is the art. It was pretty well drawn, with a pretty cute protagonist. The sprites of the game was alright, but could have used a bit more detail.

All in all, it was a pretty good game, of which i would love to see a third installation of.

- I though about that too but didn't add in the end. :< There will be one in boss fight if I make more bullet hell game in future. :)

- daikazoku63 want to say thank you, he's glad to know that you like his arts and style. xD

- Yeah! And here are my thanks to you! Thank you so much! x3

I thought this was an interesting way to mix genres. The controls are very responsive, the patterns are challenging, but the music-driven pacing is a creative way to keep the game from becoming frustrating and maintaining some variety.

I do have to point out that there is a bug with the scoring system. Every time I submitted my score, it would save and add on to the next game making it very easy to climb the scoreboard. I submitted my score under Anger Juice, if you have any control over the scoreboard, it would be best to remove it.

Nonako responds:

How did I forget to reset the score after each battle? T_T I already fixed it, thank you so much!
And I won't remove your score, just think of it as a bonus for finding "a secret" and you found it! xD Beside that, get over 20.000 score is possible, may it's better for me to believe all the scores till this time are legit. xD

Thank you again!

I know I'm doing the game wrong. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome! However, there is little to no game feedback. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be dodging here. I haven't the foggiest in respects to knowing when and how I die. But seeing my favorite songs manipulate the game makes it all better. Despite being confused, I loved it.

Nonako responds:

Hehe, your hitbox is the small red-white circle at center of the character. You only get hit when your hitbox get hit, that is. xD Hope now you can enjoy the game. xD Thank you so much!

Ok wow. There's this little ball in the middle of your guitar that you can't let get hit by ANYTHING! It's hard. But the idea behind this it wonderful. I like the style and that fact that you can play the game with any song you happen to have on hand is just amazing, despite me really liking the song already there (i didn't make it past the first one so i don't know about any others) Very good, just to hard for my crappy skills.

Nonako responds:

Thank you for explaining about the hitbox. xD If the game is hard you just need to try hard until you pass it, of course only if you feel it's worth. xD Thank you again for playing and feedback!
