Reviews for "Amber Helix"

I am unfortunately forced to agree with the others on how hard this game gets quick. I am playing on easy and needed to repeat the second levels multiple times to reach a strength enough to progrss past those levels. I am beginning to think the author did not playtest the game with a sample group to get any feedback on its difficulty and assumed since they made it through just fine, other players will do so as well.

That isn't detracting from the fun I'm having with it, because I WANT a game that isn't going to hold my hand all the way through, but maxing myself out and completing all the stages is taking me a long time.

good job

A lot of effort, good story, good controls, great music, but the progression system is hopelessly flawed and fundamentally turns the game into grinding.

Additionally, the regeneration mechanic is useless at early stages, due to the necessity of shooting disallowing any meaningful level of regeneration.

AmberHelix responds:

On easy i can play through the game without grinding, no need to repeat levels, in fact it gets too easy as I am overpowered after a while. I will not make it easier.

BEGINNERS GUIDE:
First levels are very hard. The easiest way to grind you through the early levels is to use only the practise-simulator and pump up the "intelligence", which is cheap to buy. Repeating the non-lethal simulator earns 4.000 exp in little more than a minute - much faster than the early levels, and intelligence earns you extra experience to buy the other upgrades sooner.

Before you start completing the real levels, you should buy weapons upgrades for 2 and 3 bullets. All the other upgrades give you just a small %-bonus, but extra bullets are instant +100% fire power. Armor is also quick way to better your odds.

Only after levels 7-8 you start to earn more experience per minute, so the practice simulator is no longer needed. But it' hard to reach that point with out MAX armor and firepower. Shields are not as good, because you have almost no time to reload them. You are shooting all the time.

After you have maxed out attack, armor, shields and speed the ship evolves and more upgrade options become available.

It's good, but very grindy. Also, when it says you don't need to stop firing at stage 2 to get shield regen, that's blatantly untrue...and desperately needed.

In the target practice stage it says that shields regenerate when you do not fire, and that armor always regenerates, if you have armor regeneration. And that is true.
