There is a lot of hidden genius in this game. I love that it is keyboard-only control. For a game where you CAN'T JUMP (until way late in the game, or so I hear), it manages to be exceptional. The way you have to actually search for lore to try and understand what's happening is very interesting. It's refreshing to play as a woman who is trying to save her husband in a kind of inverse Orpheus and Eurydice scenario. It's also pleasant to play as a woman in a game that does not skimp on the gore. It's hard to figure out how to unlock certain things, but it is satsifying when you do (if only by serendipity).
I was level 6 or 7 on floor 3 and some random enemy Quickened and insta-killed me and my minion. Very rude. Only I'm allowed to do that!
And I've had about enough Flies.
Anyway, I've been looking for a game that was as good as Spelunky to fill the void left by Spelunky after I finished it, and Red Rogue is that game. Except it's harder.
