Reviews for "Epexsus Episode 1"

This was awesome!

Parimak responds:

Thank you! : D

Great animation! Though it has some elements that seem too... overused.

I can't wait for the next one.

the animation is fine the story is too much naruto for me nothing creative

Pros: The animation was nice for a Newgrounds flash. The sound effects fit well. The music did too...some of the time. It was long.

Cons: The character designs were seriously boring. From their hair to their eyes to their clothes, nothing stood out at all. There are glaringly obvious Naruto influences. The monsters are a joke, and I don't mean the designs which I liked but the fact that you made jokes out of them. None of the characters looked genuinely worried about the monsters killing the brother which took away all tension from those entire scenes. This left me uninterested in the later scenes with the monsters because they were amusing but not incredibly so. The flash jarringly flip-flopped between serious and silly. Some anime can get away with it but it was not done well here. As a result, the only drama in this episode was with the masked man.

Nothing in this flash made me care about any of the characters. This is excusable since it is only the first episode. Some anime can have a character on screen for only a few minutes and make the audience like and care about him but this is hard to do. Unfortunately in your flash this leaves the masked man as the only story-related reason for me to see the second episode and since currently most of his deal revolves around the main character who I don't care about, I don't really have much of a reason to care what he does either. The villages are bland and don't feel like "villages".

Overall: I was interested enough to watch until the end but my resolve to watch the next episode if you make it is stuck at "maybe". It was an overall "meh" experience but it is better than a lot of things on Newgrounds and I can see the effort you put into it so I rate it a 4/5.

I don't take the time to do such long reviews unless I think what I'm reviewing and the creator has potential. Keep it up.

It was good, not quite a fan of anime style though, it's quite over used. But you did manage to make some relatively decent animation, though you could work a little more on mixing the tweens, with the frame by frame, it was noticeable in a few places and made it a bit inconsistent, animation wise.

The character design was fairly minimum, the alternate take on the anime style was nice, but you could work on differentiating. The old guy seemed to not have a single wrinkle on his face. Also if it's a more realistic/surreal style, you may want to consider varietising the character's anatamy.
like give some more narrow jaws, broader shoulders, or different shaped eyes.

The open monologue was alright, but it could have been a bit shorter, and appear in small segments spread out through the series, that way you could reveal the world slowly, while giving the chance for the viewer a chance to infer some of the world themselves.
The characters were fairly decent, though they really didn't seem to have much going for them.

The voice actors could use a little work, they sounded a bit similar, possibly try going for different age groups, and accents with in your voice acting team, as this may help differ characters' voices.
though you might want to look more in looking at a persons nationality sometimes, rather than there accent, as there are many people who have similar accent but often their voices may vary, like say Vincent Price, he did not sound like the typical american.

anyway fairly good, your pillow shots were good but you may want to watch out on using image files withing your scenes as some of the pixelation was visible
