Awesome show and good review :) I think the only show that somewhat reminds me of FLCL is Abenobashi: Magical Shopping Arcade, it had the same random craziness as FLCL and similar look. Plus there was some lessons learned like growing up in it as well , you should look it up if you already haven't :)
I watched the show myself a few years ago... you pretty much said it all.
It is bizarre and foolly and coolly and yet easy to relate to it, and it also manages to plays with many growing up concepts without getting in too deep. Another good thing is that it´s short enough (having only 6 episodes) for any anime fan to go trought it several times without getting bored.
Disagree with you on the NGE being bad animated stuff (watch the rebuild version if you haven't)
Beautifully written and animated. Sometimes the simplistic stylings are able to convey more that a full bodied animation, and in a helluva lot less time to craft. You are correct about picking up something new each time you view it. It is easily one the best animes, I believe, that draws you in and makes it feel like the entire show was made for you and you alone. You can easily relate to each character in some fashion and feel the emotions involved as if it somehow happened to you in some altered dimensional way. The connections are raw and intense, but still sincere enough that you could actually believe it could have happened.
I for one absolutely love the show and the first time I saw it on Adult Swim, I was blown away by the story, animation, and characters. I've been a fan of anime since the late 70's, but this show has drawn in me in so much, that I have yet seen another anime that can even touch the boundaries that this show has to offer. And like you, I delight when I can spend a week waiting for the next episode to air the following night.
Oh, and if I am correct and what I have been told, what does Fooly Cooly (Furi Kuri) mean? Anal play.

This is a really wonderful review, thank you for writing it. It's good to know that there are many other people out there who feel the same kind of connection with this show as I do - FLCL will always be the most pleasing electric shock ever to be felt.
And I'm not sure what it means exactly, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case lol
