Reviews for "New Eden - Pilot"

The animation was great and I like the set-up, but there weren't really any... jokes, per ce. Just funny situations. And smarminess, which isn't really ha-ha funny.

Anyway, all things considered, I like this, and there aren't enough sci-fi comedies out there.

NewEdenseries responds:

Glad you liked it but more importantly thanks for the feedback and well observed.

Since making the pilot and our series of shorts (coming soon) we're evaluating how to move forward and what type of "comedy" is our strengths and if we're missing a trick anywhere along the way.

Look forward to hearing what you think of the shorts when they're released.

Hmmm, two characters crash land on a desert planet and are attacked by a native monster? Didn't I just see that somewhere on NG last month...? ;)

In all seriousness I found the art, audio, and presentation were all very well done, but I agree with some of the other reviews that the animation's blur effects are mostly unnecessary. Good luck on the series, we love to see other sci-fi series on here!

NewEdenseries responds:

Hehe ... nice one guys and couldn't agree more, bring on more NG sci-fi!

Pretty good all in all.... the animation was great, very crisp with a good flow, the sound was high quality and the voice acting was good. The only critique I have for you is it was a bit too slow. Too many pauses with 'dead air'. So I fuess what I'm saying is it needs better writing. I did chuckle quite heartily when the bug puked though, that was well built up to.

NewEdenseries responds:

Thanks mate. You're not the first to offer up the comment about it being a bit slow ... we were going for a particular kind of humour and build up but seems for some it might not be translating. Noted, moving forward we think we'll definitely tighten up the episodes.

I enjoyed this, but it felt like it could do so much better. The characters feel static and boring, and the timing on the jokes is off, in that there were too many open, awkward pauses. That being said, it was still decently funny and i do hope to see more.

NewEdenseries responds:

Thanks for your review, look forward to hearing what you think of the series of New Eden Shorts that we'll be releasing over the coming weeks.

The intentional awkward pauses/stilted timing in the pilot seems to really divide our audience ... some love it and for others it just doesn't gel for them.

We're listening to all feedback though as it helps us plan how to move ahead with future episodes.

I'll be looking forward to the "short sharp little gag films" you will be releasing. I think that's exactly what this needs.

It was too long because of the empty space between the poignant parts of the episode. I don't just mean dead air, either. Parts of the dialog seemed directionless, and I found myself zoning out between gags.

It's being billed as a comedy, so it needs more emphasis on the comedy. The very beginning:

"Destination: Off-Course
ETA: Imminent"

I thought that was the funniest gag in the episode (and it really was funny). There are ghads and ghads of gut-bustingly hilarious animations on Newgrounds, all with varying degrees of production quality. The one thing they all have in common is the humor.

That having been said, this is some of the slickest animation I've seen on here in 9 years. Keep the laughs at the forefront of your future animations, and you'll have a staple on your hands.
