Reviews for "Offspring Fling! [DEMO]"

Note: I have considered that this is a demo and a flash game of retro genre, and not expecting more from it.

Graphics / Animation: 80%
I didn't really like the forced "unsmoothing". This game could be just as good with smoother graphics.

SFX / Music: 100%
The tunes are simply perfect.

Story / Gameplay: 90%
Innovative, challenging yet surprisingly grotesque considering our heroine tosses her offsprings around like they were mean to be live ammunition. I would like to see some consistency of plot between the levels, they seem to be way too functional. Revealing storyline frames one by one showing an intro for each level would be expected. I also love the nostalgic feel to the whole game. Brings back my old Amiga days when I whipped the little jumping cornseeds with my fairies in Rodland. :P

Controls / Navigation: 95%
Controls are perfect, though the basic layout was inconvenient and I didn't notice other buttons from the gargantuan level selection menu on the left.

Awesome review, thank you so much!

How do I get past this wall? I know! I'll throw my child at it!

Xerus responds:

Yeah!

The strategical concepts and levels are simple but clearly most of the drive in the game is derived from the tight controls! I really wish platform flash game designers understood the styles of movement and how important they are for their games.

It really reminds me of why old games like counter-strike and starcraft are iconic: simplicity and tight controls that provide HIGH skill ceiling! You know it's a good game when you get frustrated at yourself (not the game) for not doing better (the developer's time record so fun to try and beat!)

One note though, not all levels had the ghost developer player (and sometimes the "fastest time" ghost makes the screen to hectic to focus on the actual player (perhaps give option to remove).

I just wished there were more levels to play.
Also, adding little quirks and features would definitely help augment the fun in the game (i.e. different skins, secret levels,

lol. Fun game but definatly hard on the fingers for sure. Still cute. :D

This is a good game, and I will definitely consider purchasing the full version.
However, there were some lag issues I had with the controls. Sometimes the movements didn't occur until about two or three seconds after I had already pressed the keys, which is annoying enough in the earlier levels, but absolutely unplayable when you start to encounter enemies (I suspect this is what some people meant when they said they kept dieing due to "horrible controls").
This aside, great job!

Xerus responds:

Hmm interesting, haven't seen any issues with the controls on the computers I've tested it on. Might be because of the web browser version maybe. Sorry about the trouble! Thanks for the feedback.
