Reviews for "Inspiration Dave"

I liked the graphics, music and sound effects. I especially enjoyed the dieing sounds and graphics for some strange reason.

The tutorial level is interesting and takes a little bit of time to complete but every level after that can be completed in under ten seconds it feels like. Collect the musical notes and finish the level before a specified time and earn yourself bonus levels? Or I could just finish the level without getting the musical notes and still be able to make my way to the next level will do just fine for me.

My favourite level was the one where I was falling down the entire time. If the entire game was like I would've enjoyed it more I think. Next up was the second level in the city/house(I think) where I died like 100 times. I really enjoyed the later levels and their music. For some reason dieing frequently really helped make the game that much more fun.

Overall its a decent game to pass the time with for a little bit but its lacking in difficulty and motivating you to want to collect those musical notes which appears to be the games main objective. Keep up the good work.

Seagaia responds:

Thanks for your thoughts on the game! I liked this review and seeing your thought process. A ton of levels could be made around the whole falling mechanic!

Not in a way to lash out just at you -
But pixel-games tend to lack serious quality in all factors (especially game ideas)- just because its retro doesnt mean it can be as horrible as possible.

Recently almost all frontpaged games i see is pixel - and they are all the same. Totally useless, but hey! its ok its "retro".

This seriously starts to get monotonic -somehow stickfigures are more interesting then this.

As for the game itself - i seriously think it would have been more tempting if you did a bit work on the idea of the game itself - again its the same pattern, its pixelated and therefore the story can suck. There is no real challenge or plot. you run around in a poorly animated, repetetive music and collect notes.

Seagaia responds:

I think you need to start by understanding *why* a lot of games end up pixelated. A lot of these games are made by one person. That means we spend painstaking hours drawing everything, writing every song, placing every tile, writing every line of code. In short, we get better at all of these aspects and pixels are one of the more accessible ways to draw art assets that are acceptable to look at, given our low time budget. It's not some pretentious lash at "trying to be retro". I want to make a game, I want to express my ideas, but I don't have a large budget to hire an artist or the time to get a friend to draw for me. So, I do what I can.

"Totally useless"? What does that even mean? A lot of these games are people trying to contribute to a creative medium, and you're calling them useless because they don't fall into line with what your perception of what a game should be.

Your claim that every "[game you] see is pixel - and they are all the same" is totally unwarranted. Within pixel art there are many styles of art, and to generalize not only the art but also the game design in each is to be ridiculously ignorant. Is it possible that the average quality of these games is lower than others? Sure.

I have no problem with you thinking the game is "poorly animated, repetetive (sic) music and collect notes". Those are your opinions and you're welcome to think that. However, one opinion that you state, "there is no real challenge", I have a bit of a problem with. Evidenced by your lack of medals and appearance on the high score board, you didn't even play the game enough to make a conclusion like that. You've basically done the equivalent of listening to the first track of an album and concluding "You know, this is kind of simple music". Now if you had played through the entire game and say that? Sure, I'd be fine, as long as you back your reasoning up.

I'm sorry this game pissed you off enough to write a review like this. It's also unfortunate you decided to shit on hundreds of hours of my life by voting it a zero. From now on, I hope you try to think differently when commenting on other humans' creative works.

Remember, this isn't just some bag of bits that appeared out of nowhere. This was a human attempting to bring to life some sort of idea. Hey, it's not perfect. Maybe you don't like the music, the gameplay, or anything, that's fine. But you could at least show some respect.

Great game ! ^.^

Seagaia responds:

Thank you!

it's kinda fun altho the text is really hard ot read, you may want to make it bigger and more bold

Seagaia responds:

Thanks! And yeah, the text is kind of hard to read in game...oh well.

underrated joy.

Seagaia responds:

Thanks for the kind words.
