Reviews for "Hood Episode 3"

This reminds me of Gretel & Hansel specially the hidden path scene that revealed when you use the stone. I liked Alice is dead way better than this one but I can't say anything wrong about it either, still so good too with dark twist.

Great artwork. Didnt make it through the whole game, though.

How come?

Best quote: "Whoa, whoa, now. We don't dig up the dead. Crazy person."

Sad to see the "press space at ANY TIME" thing go, was hoping that would come back later to pass by sound-based enemies (like sirens). Which reminds me, a little more chance of death (leading to "Would you like to try again? Y/N") scenes would fit in well. People (by which I mean I) love collecting death scenes and it adds an element of risk.

Moving on; it was a bit of an anti-climax to have the main aim of the game (in parts 1 and 2) done via cutscene at the start. Oh well... Then, soon after starting, I accidentally opened the tree's rotating puzzle! If I'm not the only one then it's a poorly designed puzzle, though if it is just me then what a fluke! Restarted the game to work it out properly and sadly it killed the music both times I finished it.

This is the first game where I've made a bored stone, probably because by our world's mythology they're meant to be self-bored and I think doing it with (even a rune-covered) drill takes away from the mysticism. Still, guess you're creating your own lore and it's always nice to see ancient mythology referenced.

No voices, some cool spirits but my guy wouldn't comment on them, less NPCs, some other seemingly unused bits of background (I'm not even sure the coin did anything), no comment made on the cave jumper (e.g. "Ahh!"), and I don't find children singing to be creepy, particularly as background music in an inhuman world, sorry. Just seemed out of place. Overall had a lot of potential but didn't hold together as well as part 2 in my eyes.

Still, congrats on main page, I look forward to part 4.

bbrake pretty much voiced my ideas for me, so I'll only say what else I think.

This is my first Hood Episode, so I might be missing some concepts as I play through. I really fell in love with all the detail, but then was disappointed by how much of it looks useful, but isn't. I got stuck for a while because I dup up the coin on my first try, and I thought that was all to dip up. Nothing really told me otherwise. Seeing symbols repeat themselves seemed really important, so I thought that was a clue and spent far too much time looking at the slider. Overall, I had dug up the coin, then spent more time after that on misleads than I had played on the rest of the game. Not fun.

Back to the good. The details are great, and I loved watching all the spirits in every screen. I was also enjoying the music at first, which is why I was surprised when it ended and was replaced with sound effects that seemed to have nothing to do with the game. The jumper also seemed out of place to me, but I'm pretty sure that's because I haven't played the other games.

As for puzzles, I would like to see more and harder. The tree was the hardest part, but it only took me a couple minutes for me to figure out. More practical use of the spirit world viewer would be nice too.

Finally, if the coin and shrines were really a pointless extra, why not add a little pizazz and make it play music like a jukebox? That would've been a fun surprise. I mean--it wouldn't be the only Easter egg. I did see where you put in a convenient "you're doing it wrong."

Hyptosis responds:

Thanks for the feedback. I tried to keep the 'jumper' from being annoying like they are in most games. I just wanted him to be creepy, not a jump of and startle you kind of thing. I'll try to do better next time, thanks.

The riddle seemed pointless to me as it seemed to reffer to the thing in the vines passed the two statues. But that only was important after you had the drill despite the guy telling you that you need the riddle to get the drill. Also, like others have mentionned, the tree riddle was really confusing. I needed your walkthrough for basically that. Last negative comment was that it was too short. When you really got into the game, since it's been a while since I played the other two, you declaired it's to be continued. I am actually dissapointed since it seems like something you rushed through and didn't complete. I hate to do this, but as I expected better from you, I can only give three stars.

Again, sorry

Hyptosis responds:

Turnip leaves are sometimes eaten as "turnip greens" ("turnip tops" in the UK), and they resemble mustard greens in flavor. Turnip greens are a common side dish in southeastern US cooking, primarily during late fall and winter. Smaller leaves are preferred; however, any bitter taste of larger leaves can be reduced by pouring off the water from initial boiling and replacing it with fresh water.
