Reviews for "TOME Episode 03"

Superb! it just keeps getting better and better!
Nylocke is still my favorite character! :D keep em coming !

Was pretty good. I get the feeling the author is a dot hack fan as it reminded me of it in many ways.

THAT DEMON'S A SPAI!!!

I'm calling it now. Other than that I have a few choice words. The rather dead-pan humor is right up my alley, as is the subject matter. However I feel it's not... gamey enough. Not to say I'd like to play in this world (but that would be the shit if I could) but rather the language doesn't seem to match up with what someone would usually type into a chat window. That itself leads me to believe that the players are using microphones to talk to each other, so the text windows don't make viable sense except as a premise for the RPG staple "two people and a box" thing, something many RPGs lack when talking person to person. A few changes, which I will suggest, might make everyone nerdgasm as a result.

1. /cry, /frustrated, /stare, etc. As the characters change animations from sad, annoyed, or intrigued, the /emote in the text box could really sell the MMO feel I think you're going for. Just a little detail. It dosen't have to be in the text box that shows during conversations, but maybe down in the corner as some small colored text.

2. l33t speak and/or abbreviated words and phrases. Characters meant to be "hardcore gamers" or plain annoying using l33t speak would be an awesome shoutout to those kinds of tropes, while saying's like "lol" or "rotfl" or "lmfao" being common in MMOs in general and being used in game might work even better than the proper (and admittedly more likeable) proper english used in the series so far.

3. Game pertinent lingo. Gratz, exp, mana, cooldowns, zoning in, tp (teleport), HP, MP, DPS. Thats just to name a few. It helps to sell an MMO setting if people are using MMO terms.

Then again I could just be missing all of these because I expected them to be there anyway (which is good) and just being a bit of a whiny bitch (which I will admit to if called on) with awesome cartoon induced tunnel vision. Granted all these suggestions, you can just keep doing what you're doing and I'll keep watching regardless.

I do have one complaint about the episode, so don't think you're safe yet. I was halfway through the episode and this is all I could think of saying, thanks to the easter egg in the first episode.

"Still no sign of Kirb...."

/cry
