Reviews for "TOME Episode 03"

Last time I reviewed one of these, I said it was pretty awesome, but could be even more awesome. It now is. There is no other world I can come up with to describe this movie. Nylocke's lines, the expression oif the characters and the one the scriptwriting conveys, the more mature approach you're handling the story this time around (and the much more skill you've acquired as an animator) is really showing through your creations. Congrats. One thing though, that last line was kind of unintelligible, but I don't really know how much of that is due to the fact that I'm not a native English speaker. Anyway, this is pretty much kickass, I felt like watching a big television series, like those with production and big budgets and all. Pat yourself and your crew in the back, grab some beers ad don't stop making these!

This new animation you've been working on for a month is amasingly awesome Kirbopher. Totally worth the waiting. I'll be looking forward to the next episode

My thoughts on the episode-

Animation- like the first 2 episodes it does its job, though in this episode it does a lot more and with superb results. having the characters move much more often in their speech boxes and non text box moments have improved too and seem to occur much more frequently.

Story-moving in the right direction too. it is gaining momentum at the proper pace in terms of suspense and gives the view better insight on what is to come next. it also gives better reasoning to the hacker's plot such as what else they can do game breaking (i.e. battles without a battle field).

Humor-still somewhat underwelming but still improving. nyloke's phrases have gotten better and the addition of his admirer and rival looks promising in creating irony to his persona for future episodes. don't get too hung up on this fact because tome works as a series for a serious story and animation, not as much the humor (though it would be greatly appreciated)

Characters-The new characters are likable and do there job in the story in supporting and advancing the characters development. though one thing that I found odd is that while the characters are virtual players, as noted numerous times during the episode with added references, they interact with each other as if they were actually there which seems somewhat out of place considering the fact we don't know if they ever interact with each other when they are away from the computer. explaining their existence better in tome as it relates to the real world would be a nice addition to future episodes. the only character that seemed out of place was the demon character. his transition seemed a tad bit too fast though there is enough background info to support why he made that choice (his care for beauty, justified reasoning to fight as a hacker)

The series is definitely going in the right direction. one additional note for the next episode is having the sprite battles quicker and much more action packed. quicker as in the characters move quicker and an example of the action packed element is more dynamic sound effects, some shockwaves and debris.

Best of luck to episode 4. a series worth the anticipation.

This series is beginning to get better and better with each episode. It's like you haven't ridden this particular bike in a long time, but I feel you've addressed a lot of opportunities posed in the first two episodes.

First of all, the animation. There's a marked improvement in the "talking avatars" to be seen. I'd caught a glimpse of what you were doing when you posted the snippet of FlameGirl on DA, but seeing it in practice is great. I've noticed that you've also seemed not to rely on those same avatars as heavily, at least during action scenes and places where a pair of talking pictures would poorly convey the situation.

The voice acting has been good since the first episode, and this is no different. The writing has shown a bit of improvement as well, and the fight scenes are a bit faster paced, which was something that definitely needed addressing in the first episode.

I think my only complaint at this point is the depth of characters, but this may be something that simply can't be addressed when you consider the structure of the series. TOME has a LOT of characters, and a LOT of plot to address in the time allotted, so perhaps the concept of giving DemonKing a little more depth may be, while preferred, a bit impractical.

All in all, I think you're taking the series in a good direction, and, as a long time fan of TTA, I think that you're doing a great job so far. Keep it up!

Great video, but the scene select easter egg doesn't work. Completely worth the wait, and for some reason I feel the new style of character conversation, along with the new talking, for lack of a better word, 'sprites' are able to show more emotion, giving us viewers a deeper look at the character. Keep up the good work, and keep doing what you love.
