Reviews for "Contemplate Life"

Good for Someone Religious and Down

I really liked the beginning and got all into it.
Love the animation and could feel how tortured this person was.
But then religion came into the picture.
& I don't know. I'm fine with people having a religion but when people start preaching or trying to shove religion down other peoples throats it bugs me.
I've had times where i was devastated and life sucked and no god saved me.
& even when I get down now I'm the one who sets me straight not god.
But all and all this would be a great video for someone who's religious and needed some inspiration to live another day.

nahtanojmal responds:

I'm glad you like it. We can get by without seeking God, but that doesn't mean the real problem won't reveal itself when we die.
Thanks for your honesty

im not a god beleiver

not to go against any ones religions but i just think god is fake but animation was good

nahtanojmal responds:

My animation is rubbish if God is fake.
But He isn't :-D

Different

Atleast from what I'm used to seeing here.

Now I do appreciate your animation in the falling and such. The tweened animation kinda killed the mood for me. I don't know why.

But the art was pretty good, though. For some odd reason, I have a feeling your inspired by Sexual-Lobster's work because of the shading and such.

I did enjoy the music as it really had a powerful feeling and the fact you used something not anime-ish or Linkin Park (despite how much I like the two) really impressed me.

I am also shocked at the message you tried to convey here. But it did give some good points at the end.

Nice work, keep it up. :)

nahtanojmal responds:

I was more inspired by redminus' style, but I could have subconsciously done things similar to Chris. Hey it is kind of similar isn't it :S :)
Well we are both Australian and did kind of attend the same uni at the same time......

I like them too :D

and Thanks for the review

I liked it

The drawing and animation were good. One thing I had a dispute with at first was the dialogue, it started sounding pretentious around the "your corruption is your fault" point. But after I read the dialogue clearly in the author comments, I realized that it does make sense (if in no other way, at least in the context of teachings that echo this view on life).

The voice was difficult to make out at times, so that could have been clearer, and the dialogue itself could be revised to provide more impact (the speaker would have to work on expressing it better as well). Overall this was a mild success, I think you accomplished what you were going for, but you didn't hit it out of the park. What mainly needs work is the audio (speaking), and visual content that encourages the viewer to contemplate (In the context of visual information, many of the scenes were basically static). What I mean by static is that this flash usually had a single group of images being panned or moved around for each statement the speaker made, but there was little to no information being added during the scenes to better bridge the gap between the visuals and the dialogue. With some more creative substance, the visuals could play out less like separate pieces following each statement in the dialogue, and more like an instrument that helps to focus the mind on the train of thought that the dialogue is establishing. The sound and visuals would be working together to provide a cohesive experience. When the sound and visuals don't flow well enough together, the mind has to work harder to analyze and find the link between the audio and the visuals, and the extra work the mind has to do tends to pull the viewer away from an otherwise immersive experience.

So that's my review, it might not be easy to employ what I suggested but I hope you find it useful. I personally don't follow a religion but I believe there is some sort of god-like force in existence - that might be why I could see meaning in this. The way I see it though, it's only fair to judge this not on the message itself, but on its execution, seeing as people may not share the same beliefs as this flash portrays. Thanks for submitting and good luck on your next flash!

nahtanojmal responds:

Thanks, and point taken. More familiar visuals to tie it together ;D

Well done, but...

I suppose this would be very uplifting and inspirational if I wasn't and atheist? As one, I find it a bit sad (not trying to insult theists here) that one would need to have belief in God to pull oneself out of depression. Rather, I think that one needs to rely one's own strength to become more content with life. Other than that, the beginning was nice, but (as an atheist) I found the ending quite disappointing. 7/10 because good, but not great, voice acting, and pretty good animation (nice realism, btw).

Please, I'm not trying to say religion is a fundamentally bad thing, I just think there are better ways to overcome depression than thinking that god loves you, or that you have some higher purpose or ability that was given to you by god when you were made.

nahtanojmal responds:

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

Religion is a horrible thing if it is wrong.
If Christianity is wrong I should be greatly pitied.

Thanks for your honest review ;)
