Reviews for "Town of Fears"

Wow

This was really good. Final boss was a pain but i beat him.

makes you want more

I rather liked this, good plot, art and strange lively characters. Though the combat wasn't fast for such a devastating story, and one other problem I have is the beginning and the train sequence. It all starts with a fight and didn't do much to suck you into this horrid, grotesque world. Maybe you should have shown a flash back of when the investigation started? But you may have added that in later, I haven't finished it, yet, so for that I apologies.

Addictive Fun and very enjoyable

Frankly i think this would possibly be something to be up there with Steven King. The game just sucks you into the darkness

Well written and good art work

This game is a cut above the average game here on newgrounds. Firstly, it has a well written story that is intriuging and keeps you hooked as you switch from character to charactor. The depiction of the enemies also has a bit of quality to it as well whichshows the care to attention and detail as well. The battle system is easy to get to grips with and the special attributes are self explanatory and easy to use. Now heres the part with the downsides unfortunatly. First of all, the story, though well written isn't very tight. The beginning has us fighting a crow and we are introduced to a detective but theres nothing of this case his working on or his background. By the time some important plot point comes up, I'm let to quickly take on board whats happened thus far before another fight comes along and the bit of story I read has been forgotten. Just having small breaks which explain the situation and flesh out the charactors as well would help the overall feel of the game. The battle system is well thought out as I could see from the tutorial, but when I found out I could just shoot things and rarely use the special talents, all that careful planning and tatical use of the charactor goes out the window which is a tremendous shame. Also a few more basic enemies to give a bit more variety to the fights and maybe some more bosses as well to balence things out. The fears I thought were clever and as a suggestion, maybe there could be four of such things; bugs, dark, death and crowds. Each one is a guardian of the fear demon and each has a part of a crystal that is needed to harm it so the four guardians have to be fought nurmerous times before being killed by having the crystal removed, much like the butcher with his clever. Well thats just ideas to take on board. I can see that H.P lovecraft may have been an influence here as well. It's a good little game but those problems are more irksome then most and it mars an otherwise quality game. I hope this feedback has been usful.

Thanks, we'll try to improve these areas in the sequel. Really appreciate your feedback.

Interesting Game, but Unbalanced Characters

Two things:

1) The game felt like it was a little short. A sequel with more enemies in it would definitely be great.

2) The characters are a little unbalanced. The game seems to heavily favor tank characters that can regenerate. I nominate Last Flake for most overpowered character in the game, as she can singlehandedly defeat the big bad and still have more than 80% of her health remaining, while I found that characters who are defensively weaker like Angela or Simon (who also seem to have fewer attribute points to invest for some reason, which you might want to look into) are constantly getting killed. It might make more sense to balance the characters a little, and maybe even make them a little more situational, rather than letting the players tank their ways through everything.
