Reviews for "Alphaland"

eh!!!

ok, im giving it a 2 because the controls are good, and the music kinda fitting, and since its a minimalist game i suppose the graphics are good.
but honestly i didn't get this at all, i dont understand what im meant to be doing im collecting coins which seem to do nothing, i just seem to be bouncing around the with no real intention. dont get me wrong i enjoy abstract art games as much as the next guy but this really seemed to be lacking purpose, if you gave me some idea as to where its meant to be going or what the point is then it would be a whole lot better.

due to the fact that everyone seems to be rating this so higly makes me think that mabey i have missed the point of this game, if thats the cse then do forgive me.

Err...

Pretty disappointed this is on front page, to be frank.

Maybe I'm just thick, but it appeared to be about a pixel alpha character coming to terms with... something? Dying, I suppose, but isn't it still being "born" if it's just in alpha? If you had to explain, explicitly, what the end message means, I don't expect you would be able to. This is the calling card of wishy-washy thought; pseudo-philosophy.

If a game has zero graphic work put into it, the "message" has to be valid and carry considerable weight to make the overall package any good. This just fails on both counts.

I give a 2/10 on the off chance this is a troll game.
(which the ducky sounds make me want to believe)

JonasKyratzes responds:

In my opinion (as the author), there's nothing wishy-washy about it. The story is actually rather straightforward: an exploration of what a test version of a game might feel like as it approaches the point where it is transformed into an actual game. I don't think there's anything particularly vague about the end message, really. At least it is not intended to be vague, though obviously nothing will ever please everyone.

The parallels that may or may not be drawn to other things are up to the players.

sorry

This is the worst review I've ever given. I honestly usually like the sort of game where you're made to understand a concept but I really didn't get it. Maybe there is some aspect I didn't understand but as far as I'm concerned this game makes little to no sense therefore the value of being given something to understand is wasted and also this game has no value as a "game". Before you click dislike on my comment (because I know YOU will) please leave a comment explaining to me the thing that I'm missing from this game. I've read the other reviews and I honestly don't get what there talking about when you say stuff like "this game truly makes you understand the concept of life"........... WTF. The only way it might be able to redeem itself is if the art was any good which it isn't. So I apologies to the people who liked this game but I really didn't (and that is what a review is).

Another piece of garbage for the "art games" pile.

It's amazing what people can get away with in this site by adding pretentious bull**** to a game. The controls suck, the level design sucks, the "music" is annoying, etc. Games can be art and still be fun to play, people. Make an effort. If you're not even gonna give a damn about the gameplay, don't make a game.

Oh Great

Another sucky game that's supposed to be artsy cuz it's pixelated. BTW I usually give them a chance, and this one was particularly boring.
