Reviews for "Folding Cranes"

Wow...

this must have taken forever to do frame by frame...
it's folds are almost perfect

my only issue is with the background music which reminds me of the music that goes to a extremely creepy scene in a horror movie which i just cant put my finger on

TheBoogley responds:

hitchcock's psycho? yeah, it's pretty freaky tune. I think it suits the obsessive compulsive nature of origami in general.

Oh, and it took FOREVER... but I've been chipping away at it gradually over the past month or so.

Mind-blowing.

This rating given is purely on artistic style and creativity with said style, complimented by quality of detail and control. I cannot hesitate to say it is extremely rare to see such a simple idea executed perfectly, even allowing what would be little more than a movie to actually be educational as well (the opportunity to make your own, with easy-to-follow and 'obviously shown' directions that contain no hidden details, such as what you might find in an IKEA direction booklet).

When I was younger, I often did a little origami (nothing extensive), and this has made me want to go back and do some more ten years after I'd given it up. An excellent submission, and one you should be proud of.

-1 simply because of the music choice. Don't take it too hard.

TheBoogley responds:

The one thing that made this project difficult was that there was nowhere to hide mistakes. Usually my work is rough and ready which allows for and evens requires character and idiosyncrasies in the drawing, but in this piece I couldn't loosen up at all and was constantly having to align things and work with tiny details. This review means a lot to me, thank you very much!

Experimental for you!

If this did not have the author's name, I would have never guessed that it was you. While you are known for working on non-sequitor stuff, this was still really different. It is just great that you are planning on an entirely new style of animation for you. As for me, well, I probably will never make an onigori crane. I remember going to this one place where I worked on paper airplanes but the only thing I remember from it is that you can just crumble up a piece of paper and throw it to make it go fast. The music was really cool too.

This submission works because it has a lot of heart to it. It seems like you really wanted to show the audience how to make a paper crane. It works great as an infinite loop because if you are working on one, you can just keep watching this all day. I liked the colors and all of the lines are drawn very neatly. While I do like your other sort of animation better, this was certainly a treat.

TheBoogley responds:

thanks Ericho, it was nice to try something new and I was a little nervous about what people would think of it. It seems to be going down well so i'm very happy!

Trippy

that was some trippy shizzle, nice work man :D

TheBoogley responds:

ow! you tripped over my nizzle! :O

-.-"

thx a lot man, now my friends are asking me to make me some cranes...
anyways, great vid, couldve had better music if u ask me
the animation is rlly smooth and overall its rlly awesome
mccooler

TheBoogley responds:

Tell your friends to make their own damned cranes! No one should be bullied into folding paper!
YOU HAVE RIGHTS!! 8O
