Reviews for "Aurora- chapter 1"

Good start

Not a bad start there, that is the main reason you get other to try the games.
Biggest problem I had was the hit detection when you try to jump on the boxes.

PastelGames responds:

jump on the boxes?:)

Beautiful artwork

The artwork was beautiful, the set up of the story was well done. Kind of like Twin Peaks set in the old west. It was compelling enough of a story to drive me to continue playing until this episode's conclusion. That said, I have a few criticisms...

It's a shame that it is let down by a few critical short-comings. This title suffered from a bare-bones game mechanic, lack of scene transition, minimal UI and a complete lack of animation. However, these are all qualities that I am sure if given a decent level of thought that you can rectify for the next chapter.

I also felt short changed by there being no real satisfactory conclusion to this chapter. It left me feeling a little robbed of any sense of accomplishment of making it through the game.

This is an honorable entry to the point-n-click genre, just let down by a few stock standard features you expect to find in a game like this. Well done!

Great atmosphere but shallow story

The artwork and atmosphere are great and I enjoyed playing the game. I am also aware that this game is obviously going to get a sequel. Nevertheless I found the story and the progression in the game too shallow to really give this game a great score.

Atmosphere, graphics and controls are very important for every game, but especially for point-and-click adventures, the story is the most important thing, imho.

---------SPOILER-----------

- Why do I need to *buy* the key from the stranger? This simply doesn't make much sense. He obviously is in the position that he knows more than he tells us, so why would he be interested in something simple as money?

- Why does he only show up after I won the poker game? I easily could have afforded the key before.

- Why doesn't changing the clocks affect anything? It makes no sense that I can only leave after setting the clocks. (Yeah, it says that's the time of the show, but it still makes no sense, as is has no direct visible effect)

- Why can't I open the lock with the gun?

- The people don't really seem to be afraid of Aurora, despite what is told in the subtitles.

These are just some points giving you an idea why the story seems unbelievable and the person acts shallow and unreasonable.

Nevertheless: Waiting for the sequel!

Not bad

The artwork was brilliant, and the soundtrack, although a little repetetive, was quite fitting.
The abrupt ending really hurts the game, as does the lack of structure to the quest.
There should not be purchasable items that do nothing, particularly with a finite amount of in-gam money. The last thing you want is a player getting stuck with no means to progress.
And overall, this felt unfinished. THe player is fooled in to believing that there is more than one way to complete the game, implied through the clocks, the postcard etcetera, when in actuality there is not.
Regardless, looking forward to future additions to the series.

wont work with Ruffle. wont get past the first slide. please fix. think it may have sized the game wrong
