Great start
It's really good fun but it seems unfinished. The concept and the challenge is there but as the enemy advances I feel the player is left behind. Possibly making it into actual levels from which you can use lives to try again rather than from the start. Also an upgrade system could really improve this.
I think you want what the other guy said, like adding in different enemies that give new kinds of shots as you go.
Fun but glitchy
Its a nice mix of kirby and a side scrolling shooter which is kinda cool but I wish different things did different attacks and not just the special attack. Like the batteries from the first boss could shoot lightning bolts or battery acid... something a little cooler than a battery which was somehow smaller than the battery you ate originally.
Oh and its glitched a little. If you click too rapidly the screen the dog will bark and get stuck where it is at for a second and then teleport to wherever you moved the mouse to. Kinda sucks and gets you hit sometimes but should be an easy fix.

it would be better if there was no limit to the ammount you can inhale, and a rapid spit mode
It's okay, saw two problems.
First problem: Controls. One button is nice and all, but a lot of times I found the game couldn't really distinguish the command to fire from the command to inhale.
Second problem: If you die while inhaling, the inhale noise keeps playing and can't be stopped, even by starting a new game.
You can use SPACE to fire if you want.
I might fix that sound thing.
Clifford?
I swear that image at the beggining looks like it came from a Clifford book. Clifford the Big Red Dog. The game was ok, orginal idea I guess. Doesn't deserve anything real special though.
