I threw an entire Thanksgiving Break at this game. Would heartily recommend to anyone like me who's "getting too old for this crap", i.e. has seen all he's wanted to see of RPGs for a lifetime. Just as cheeky and deceptively difficult (in Epic Mode) as the Etrian Odyssey games--but this was quite a bit more satisfying in the end. The only thing that bums me out is the medal server time-out error is keeping me from obtaining most medals for the record--but that didn't stop me from eagerly retrying and deliberating over the last two bosses until I found a strategy that worked for each. 60/60 medals is no easy task!
You know why it works? There are some tags there. Guns. Boobs. Swords. Battles. Nails the simple things, yet is complex enough to continue rewarding the learning curve. Even in the hardest mode, the beginning didn't intimidate with its near-overwhelming set of options. But by the end, I felt like I'd really mastered a combat management system. I never thought I'd enjoy that feeling again.
