Reviews for "TANK MAN"

Excellent Tribute

Using Joy-to-Key, this game is amazing. Without it...the controls can get a little confusing. But, overall, it is an excellent one level game that pays homage to both the Blue Bomber and Team Apocalypse.

Lambtaco responds:

What's confusing? There are two action buttons a pause button and the arrow keys. It's NES simple. I still recommend joy2key, though. Any keyboard controls suck for platforming compared to the good old-fashioned gamepad.

kinda messed up...

not so great controls... I don't know why, but I keep jumping instead of shooting, and the controls should be easier to find in the description... also, did you HAVE to put "awesome" in the little box thing when you are going to click it?

Lambtaco responds:

You can switch the jump and shoot controls on the main menu. And the controls are on the friggin' menu. Do people not even read the menus these days? I used to put a controls button on the menus of my games, but people didn't click them. Now I put them right on the main menu and people still don't read. Do I need to have a big screen pop up when you start the game telling you all the controls? Are people really that lazy?

Also, I didn't put "awesome" in the description. I wrote "Newgrounds rules!" in it's place. Someone changed it when they put it on the front page.

I can't jump or shoot...

The buttons are not even registering... please debug.

Lambtaco responds:

Really? Are you pressing the right buttons? Maybe click on the window. Works fine as far as I can tell.

A Tribute that Does Justice, despite its Bugs

First off, I commend you for making a tribute that adds so much original content. The new characters, weapons, stages, and enemies make this a gameplay experience that doesn't rehash the source material.

I'm not a well versed classic megaman fan, so I don't know the look of the levels by heart, but I think the graphics and characters here have their own flavor. The selected music also evokes the old games, but I can easily tell they too are a new spin on the subject.

The gameplay is solid throughout, although it sometimes suffers from repetition. The enemies are difficult to attack, but their placement and types are often repeated. One or two more enemy types may have spiced things up. The level itself gives good platforming challenge, but needs a little more variety up until the falling rock portion. Portal Man is a solid boss for a browser game like this: difficult, but not to the extreme.

Bugs, control schemes, and lacking features are my main criticism. First, the button you hold for Megaman's charge shot remains the same even if you switch the shoot and jump buttons. This means I found myself unable to charge shot unless I held the jump button sometimes. Next, I would have liked to assign the buttons to different keys if possible. I don't know why, but the current assigned keys don't feel perfect to me. Finally, having a feature to go back to the main menu during the game would be nice. I found myself having to reload the page if I wanted to start over without suiciding three times.

Overall, this is a quality product that could use some debuging, a little more variety, and some polish. Given that, this would become a rare excellent game.

Lambtaco responds:

tldr;

jk. I think I just made the level a little too long. If it had been shorter it wouldn't need more enemies or things like that. I fixed the switch button charge glitch, but it's still pending approval. It's really annoying having to fix bugs and only have the fixes take effect like a day after you make them. If you want to restart you have to reset NES style. Actually that bothered me a lot during testing. I kinda rushed through the menus and pause screen bits.

Good game but...

Needs WASD controls

Lambtaco responds:

Needs to learn Arrow Controls.
