Reviews for "Insert Coin: Pico N' Me"

Alright Game

Its ok, oone of my main quarrel's are the little things on the floor as they are so hard to hit and the only way i can hit them is for them to be right under me attacking me.

Torrunt responds:

If you shoot them from afar the 3rd (lower) bullet from your shotgun normally manages to hit them but the best way is to jump up onto a higher platform and aim down at them. Or try tapping down and shoot to shoot slightly lower when they're about 1-2 meters away from Pico.

Thanks for the review.

Good Start, Far From Perfect.

Definitely a "Nintendo Hard" game, if I had the patience, (after dying at the last boss) I would definitely try harder to finish it. The lack of checkpoints makes me reluctant to try again, but overall good game.
The artwork is smooth, and aside from slight difficulty shooting the smaller enemies it was a fun experience once you figure things out.
My only to quarrels with it was slightly poor hit detection against Me, and the cafeteria section. Pico seemed to fall right through the upper two platforms with the spawn doors, and on the right side my shots were being absorbed by the tables.
Other than that, my only suggestion is that I would of preferred Health pick ups that I didn't have to pause and activate, but that's just me.

Torrunt responds:

Hey, thanks for the suggestions! :D The update i'm planning soon will fix those tables so they don't have collision (being able to stand on them isn't necessary anyway). Poor hit detection on Me? you can only harm him when he's spawning or kneeling in pain after you shot him while spawning, do you mean you were having trouble hitting them then? I'll test that i bit myself. I'll have a look at those platforms in the cafe as well, thanks for that.

And as for checkpoints, I'll check with DoodleBin and if he agrees I'll add a checkpoint after the Pool Boss which is about half-way through the game.
Thanks for the review!

Doomed to repeat history

I never thought that through all the advancements I've seen in the realm of computer technology, especially in relation to video games, that people would clamor to play games that are essentially Atari games. Sure the graphics are far superior, but the object of the games are the same; just swap getting as many points as you can with try to get as far into the game while dying the fewest amount of times and you've basically got it.

This game isn't exactly like the other games I'm referring to, but it is an example of how a premise can be stretched so thin that the point of playing the game becomes moot. All you do is run around shooting the purple guys with the KKK hoods on till you destroy their spawn points, go to the next room and repeat the same process. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to jump to a platform where 3 of the purple guys are all camping a spawn point (never thought I would be saying that about a side scrolling action game, but...) and your jump leaves you hovering in the air for so long that each jump is bringing you one step closer to your death.

You can dress up your game however you want, but if the game play isn't there, then it's going to fail. Still, the score as it stands at the moment of me typing this review is 3.18, so I guess there are a lot of people visiting this site that love games like this. Shows what I know.

Torrunt responds:

Just because we have better technology doesn't mean the old formulas aren't still fun. We weren't try to make something totally innovative, just a game that people can get some enjoyment out of. Yes, they can get this same type of enjoyment elsewhere in many other games but this is our version and Pico themed one at that.

Those purple guys that are 'camping' are just standing near their spawn because they don't see you yet; once they do they'll run towards you. Just lure them away from their spawns and rush back and destroy their spawns before they come back.

Thanks for taking the time to review our game.

Hmm....

First off right off the bat I love the Art Style.
The characters have an nice slick hand drawn look to them.
But Gameplay wise hit and miss... at first I had a blast shooting enemies,
but it got boring real fast. You have the right idea but I think the gameplay should be faster something adrenaline pumping. In my opinion.
Also controls could be reworked. Have the mouse control the character, left click could be shoot. and right click could be jump.
Overall.
++ for the artsyle
-- for the gameplay
But really I don't hate it. I'm just not in love with it.
I would love to see more though.

Torrunt responds:

I would have loved to have more to work on the gameplay, my next game(s) don't have deadlines so i can spend as much time refining them as i want.
Aiming with the mouse would make it hard for laptops users and if i made a option for mouse or keyboard controls it would have made the game easier for people with a mouse. It's meant to be difficult, once you add mouse control to a game like this it makes it to easy; the game is more about technique and less about aiming.

Thanks for the review! :D

Boring.

First off, I would like to say that I liked the music and the GUN had good sound effects. Other than that...it was pretty boring. Whats the point of building up momentum for the run and the really slow jump?

Gameplay is based around holding the D key waiting for enemys to soak up your bullets, and occasionally pressing the S key to jump out of the way of the brain dead enemy's. Overall, it was pretty lame.

Torrunt responds:

Oh, you used to do a really long jump after a run up but someone mentioned it made it really hard to land on platforms such as the lockers in the first level so i lowered it, if a couple more people complain about it; i might adjust it a bit.
Sounds like you didn't find the game hard, which is a change of pace for this game it seems; i guess some people are just plain too good.

Thanks for the review, maybe my next game will be more entertaining for you.
