Reviews for "Super Adventure Game Land"

great parody

I love the sense of humor in this game and the history lesson about the video game crash. The sense of humor the best part was the 8kb of text eating up the entire memory of the game that was funny. I was only confused about one thing maybe I just screwed up but when you where talking about the one who saved video games I expecting mario to pop out cause as far as I know he is the one that saved video games along with the nes. So why the dragon from adventure from atari. I like the end with getting the axe to chop down where the dragon was standing. It is nice to see a game that not only harvest a great sense of humor but also shows that you have good knowledge of video game history as well. Good Job.I did think in places the humor was kind of dumb like when talking to the info guy and some of what the princess had to say that is why 8 instead of the nine. But the signs where awesome.I also like how you have responded personally to every one on the front page of reviews.

squidly responds:

The dragon saved the games because he simply did, I like to think of him as the "Dragon behind it all" and all that.

If I ever release a sequel, it'll explain that further.

And thanks for the compliments, and yeah, I do try to answer all the reviews I get.

A great parody...

You probably should have gave a little disclaimer in the info that this was more of a parody then an real game. I got all the the references and thought it was clever, I really like the "dragon" at the end. but game play that uses skill would be nice. I look foreword to the next one.

squidly responds:

See, the thing is, whenever I put in "skill" it makes it too hard.
Nevertheless, I will make the next one harder.

Funny

Funny game, if it was longer, would be boring.
uma star up for atari's adventure dragon!

squidly responds:

Yes, finally, somebody understands.
It was this short for a reason, if I made it drag, I'd be getting some completely different comments.

poor dragon :(

it was a nicely thought out game, very entertaining :)
perhaps if it were a little longer or had some puzzles, that kind of thing.
but for what it was, it was very good :D

squidly responds:

Yeah, there's always a sequel to count on.

Well...

From a technical standpoint, I commend you. Graphics are crisp, music has a nice retro sound, and the controls are easy and precise (though the character move speed was a little slow for my taste). As far as the story goes, that's where you lose points for me. The message isn't totally clear. I understand that you are criticizing the gaming industry for stale plot lines and characters (and Anime was thrown in there briefly). What I find funny is that you chose a very cliche way to get that point across. And the dialogue was only so so. There were spelling/grammatical errors, on the technical side, and it just wasn't very compelling or inspired, on the creative side. I was very aware that the same person wrote every line, it all had the same tone. And the tangents are way too long and happen too often. Having one at the end with the Dragon would be fine, with a small one by the princess, but honestly standing there and pressing space for a few minutes isn't fun. Overall, 7/10. Not bad, but there are things to improve on.

squidly responds:

Most of all the dialogue is skippable, although I'll agree that the signs in the beginning are a bit ridiculous.
