Reviews for "Time (The Milkman_Dan Finale)"

Wow...

A great piece to go out with. I hate that I can't think of anything new to say about this one. So I'll just have to suck it up and say you did a fantastic job with every aspect of this song. The entire piece is VERY emotional and in general it is a truly great track. The guitar at the end was a nice touch and I couldn't think of a better guy than Bad_Man to do it. You've made a truly great song and you should be very proud.

I don't really know you well (unfortunately) or really at all but I am quite sad to see you go. I've enjoyed listening to your music for a short while now (though I wish I had been a fan longer) and I have enjoyed every second of it. I hope you'll continue to make music because it would truly be a shame if you quit. I wish you luck wherever you may go and have a very safe journey.

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Why hello there,

I wouldn't mind getting to know you sir... or anyone else for that matter... so feel free to add me to msn. (friendlyfire_88@hotmail.com)

I'll continue to make music... but it will take a very long time to compose... and so I won't submit it to newgrounds... since it will just get lost without a steady stream of new music.

It may not even be that good without the time to put alot of work into it.

Thankyou for the well wishes... and I too regret not getting to know you better... but the reviews have been awsome. :)... Thankyou.

Farewell

Ah... it is indeed a sad song, a masterpiece. be sure about something, NG and specially me, will miss you. Good Luck in ur Military Service. You were the best example for us. Please keep in contact. BUENA SUERTE AMIGO!!!
your friend,

RemiLegend

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Remi!...

I remember when you first came to newgrounds. I was among the first to review your work.

You have amazing talent. And now... I plan to go live the Hero's Dream myself.

I'll miss u too mate.

Your Friend
Daniel

Nice title, but i regret...

not listening to more of your songs in the past :)
I truly like this piece very much.
The guitar add in the end was prolly the best idea
and i know i would never have thought of doing
that. It intesifies it in a gentle way.
What i liked better was the fast piano arpeggios
(or fast scale runs, w/e they were). they were
awesome and amazingly executed.

i hope u come back soon
and possibly make another song lol
i wish you all the luck in ur future goals
whether it be musical or not.
I will miss ur songs evn tho i wasnt really too
fond of you.

take it easy,
and have a good life

Musically, WinterWind...

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Hi Winterwind,

I don't ever know if u read my replies. But hopefully this one you do.

I'm sorry to hear you were never fond of me. My only guess as to why... would be... that I've been over-rated and hanging around on the top charts where you and I truly know you deserve 100000 times more than me.

You are seriously... such a professional and perfected artist. Who truly will go soooo far with all your music.

Please anyone reading this... if you haven't listened to Winterwinds music... you need too... it is possibly the best stuff on Newgrounds.

I know you won't believe me... but I put the fast arpeggios in this piece to try and prove to you that I have a degree of talent, perhaps this time worthy of the top of the charts. I'm glad you noted them.

Whenever someone has compared me to you... or placed me and you in the same caetgory... I've always told them the truth. I don't know half of what you know... I have perhaps half the talent.

My only regret... is never collabing with you :). That woulda been amazing.

Thankyou sir
Your biggest Fan
Dan

awesome

i think a lot of ur pieces r overrated (no offence) but this one was really amazing...really :-) so professional sounding. especially liked the part around 3:00. sounded like an amazing close to a movie or it could be the credits. the only thing i didnt like was the ending. i wouldve liked a more 'booming' ending if ya know what i mean. c ya

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Well hello Italian Stallion,

Haha...you took the time to carefully critique alot of my work. I always noted u didn't have alot of nice things to say. But then again... people are too nice to me sometimes... and so you ballanced it all out.

I didn't want the ending to be powerful. Just emotionally stirring. But of course... to each his own.

Your right though... my work... is largely over-rated if looking at it from a comparitive point of view.

But I think the one thing that set my music apart... may have been... and this is just a guess... is the complete lack of theory behind it (since I know none) but instead is fueled by my own emotion.

People always seem to feel what I feel whenever they listen to my work.

you know wut... scratch that... maybe I'm just over-rated :P.

Besides that point... thanks stallion... I really don't mind the critique, I'll miss it just as much.

Good luck and God bless Dan.

I promised myself I wouldn't cry.

T-T.

If this will be your last song Dan, then this will be my greatest review, it will one of the four tributes I have prepared for you.

Lets begin with the first 10 seconds.

Very catchy, those first ten seconds, with those subtle strings, with the occasional piano note, just making slight appeareances. A weak and terrified note, thrown into a fray it doesn't want to belong to, yet can find nowhere else where it can do better.

20 - 38

The piano becomes more active here. It's wading in deeper waters, testing the darkness that it swims in gingerly, placing its hands and gently sweeping the unpredictable surface. Looking on, not knowing what, but shakily ready for it.

48 - 1:28

I felt this was a very powerful moment Dan. It's as if the piano gasps for air here. Especially at 1:08. I see it floating gently with the atmosphere. It's become used to things around it, it has grown roots, finds a loving thought buried deep in its mind.

This was home.

1:28 - 2:10
I can see the piano's spirit rising. It's great body swaying. For so long it had been simply swimming, and standing on its own was a big step, but a step it would take. Great streams of water flow off its body as he gazes at the stars, suddenly aware, how small its kingdom is.

2:10 - 3:06
It yearns for something more, a desire to be at peace again. Ever since it stood, it regrets, yet cherishes it. Its takes a very shaky step towards land. Its first step fails it, and it crashes to its knees. Its angry, yet confused. Standing again, it takes more steps, softly at first, then with more confidence. Looking beyond the land, he looks at the dark sky. The stars staring at it, and it at them.

3:06 - 3:27
Its running through the fields, completely left the world it knew well behind it. Exhilarated beyond words. Its feet begin to glide on the ground, gently rising and rising, until at last it is souring. Great wings sprout from his back, and merge with his arms.

3:27 - 4:12 (end)
And now it is free... it is souring the skies, the clouds below it. The sun rises slowly and breathes life into the cold earth and clouds. It shines brilliantly into its eyes, and blinds it with wonder and amazement. Never had it seen something so great, so powerful. It flies to it, and thats all it sees now.

The sun. Flying towards the ultimate freedom.

The strongest part of this song, is the last minute and a half of this song. I feel at this point the instruments are singing in such a powerful union that it seems like a natural part of life to be together. So natural.

Good strings and timpini work, they have an awesome supportive role, and if I am not mistaken that reverb effect you have on that piano works wonders in itself.

Your piano skills have gotten far better by no mistake. I sometimes find it extremely difficult to believe you know as much music theory as me, which is nearly nothing. You have become my greatest source of inspiration, and will remain so for a long time

So many stories in this piece Dan, and there is no room to write them. Epic moment after epic moment.

Because I was foolish enough not to assist you in this piece, and because I have a great respect for you Dan, I will give you my farewell tribute.

Here's to my good friend Dan, may his adventures take him to better places, his days filled with wonder and enlightenment. May he find the ultimate freedom we all so sourly wish to seek and find.

Above all this though, I ask you Dan to never give up music. Without any musical theory, without any knowledge of the art, you have learned to bend it to your will, to create worlds, stories, and feelings. You have learned to capture the moment, and to make them anew.

You have simply learned.

5/5 from me Dan, as if anything else is remotely possible.

Just so you know, this by NO means you can escape me ;). I will take this song Dan with your permission, and I would like to add my own little mix to it. So in some way you have something to remember me by, a great song.

Wherever your path takes you, good luck.

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Oh... Maestro.

Can you all see why I love this guy to death. You shall be a great writer some day my friend.

I sat down. Put on my headphones. And listened to the music, while reading this very review along with it. It made for such an awsome visual experience. I think I should review, your review.

It's only too bad you haven't been around lately... I wanted you to have a part in this song so much. We've made two great collabs together. You've inspired me and challenged me. But above all that... you've been the greatest of friends. An unending humour... and music that truly rocks this world.

Yoy, Winterwind, DavidOrr (Mr.Maestro), Edgen and a few other rising stars (if I've reviewed your work... it means I think ur either... amazing... or stole someone elses work) will take the classical section by storm.

Take people under your wing sir. Teach them all you have taught me. I am ever so greatful my friend.

I drink to you.
