Good, not great
The game has a good concept with a few glaring errors:
Not sure why anyone found this difficult. The you can pretty much beat every everything with the basic strategy of constantly jumping and holding down the shoot button. There's not really much incentive to not shoot. Maybe limited ammo when not on the boss next time?
Your collision detection needs some work. Enemies will hit you even if their sprite doesn't making the shield sort of useless. I like the way it works, but without proper collision detection the player has to guess if the enemy is going to whack them.
That's really it. Otherwise a solid platformer with a graphical style that suits it and boss fights that actually fit in the game. Well done.

This game. Burns the eyes out of my fucking skull.
It's very hard. But it's fun! LOADS of fun! I found the randomizing stage-layout to be awesome. Something new that makes stages totally un-repetitive and completely awesome, especially when you can just drop off the start point and end up at the boss. And the ever-annoying climb-to-heaven ones.
Gotta give this a high score. I've been playing this since I first saw it appear on the front page, and I've yet to beat it. And damn, it's too addictive! Haha.
