Reviews for "Agony: The Portal"

Okay guys, take this advice.

///First off, to all the newfags here: the item shop there doesn't need to be accessed, you don't need to buy. It's as simple as that.///

I played through this game in 4 hours, getting all the 8 artifacts on normal mode and getting to about lvl 50 in Darwin Mode (Nice pun on that one). The game was easy. Very easy.

There was one boss which was challenging if you didn't know what to do, but after about 12 stages, you understand the game mechanics and you get very fluid and fun play.

The Darwin mode was a nice way to add to the replay value, as you can grind it for amazing items and OP stats. (Hint: 2 bosses then die).

There is a lot of criticism to be made, and please listen carefully:

- The spells were abundant, but after you have them all once, there isn't a real need to upgrade anything further (except heal). I'd like more spells at a later level, or a better incentive to upgrade spells.

- The Heal spell doesn't improve after 10 stats, which means that you're only increasing its downtime. This is stupid.

- The monsters could have more variation. Semi-bosses, dragons etc. would've been nice, as well as different races.

- Even though the items only cost 10 cents-1 dollar, there is no incentive to buy them whatsoever. They look nice at their current level, but then you start getting better mob drops 5 levels later, and you've wasted your money. At the end of the game, the best items can be bought, but why would you want to continue after you've gotten past the most of Darwin mode? The weapons need to be persistently good (improve with levels), otherwise no one will want to buy.

- Last piece of criticism: there is no end-game content. Because it's not multiplayer, you can't duel, you can't get new spells etc., you'll never feel like playing through the game more than once. This ruins the item purchase option, because unlike with F2P giants like Ijji, you won't use the items again.

And so, I reckon it's best to add something of a multiplayer, or make a multiplayer game alltogether. (Maybe add rankings, ratings) Improve the items, make them adjustable (added damage, swifter slash, like the jewel system in WoW).

I don't think SP flash games will have a future other than a hobby.

The game was very good, and could easily become really good.

Thanks for listening,

Positive: weapons with spells

Awsome game :P

This game is great the only reason you guys well most of you guys hated it was because you need real money to buy stuff. thats stupid. you had a choice to had 1 item for free. and + you dont even have to use real money just play the game and get items from levels.... Great game btw i would suggest adding more skills for skill tree only this time you get classes like necromancer/lich/demon/paladin/ect... and you should add both cash items and normal item shops so ppl stop criticizing you. :p thnx for the awsome game.

im addicted i would die

hehehe this game is soooo coool the killed 90000 enemys!

Addicting

Really, this is one of the best games on Newgrounds!!! I like the diablo II-style skill system and the diverting just-kill storyline. It describes the classic RPG games from the other side. Thanks to advancing skills, boss dialogs, and changing enemies, the game does not become boring although the mission and level design is repetitive. A perfect game for after work.

The dialogs are funny and the storyline is flat, but entertaining. Although it is a classic diablo-style slash&slay RPG, the changed role gave it a twist. Although it connects many simple ideas, it is elaborated in many details: The movement is very smooth and lag-free, it has many special moves without confusing the player, the sound fits the atmosphere, and the interface is very intuitive.

Although the game is great, you should add more instructions, especially on the main menu. It took me some time to find out that there is more than one save game slot.

I don't like the shop. Like many said before, it looks commercial, but only on first sight. I disagree with the previous comments, because I think it is alright for a developer to ask for some pocket money: Developing such a game takes time AND money (these guys have to fill a fridge during cold programming nights!!!). Consider how long you play this game and how much you would pay for a cinema ticket.
It is possible to beat the game even without spending money, so the developers are more fair than those of other games (see SAS2) and you eventually get all of the items for free.
The part I don't like is that you earn so much special stuff and have to throw it away. Why not implement a shop for the common people who earn pennies by selling special items, and some elite items which are only available for tons of pennies or a small amout of paid premium coins?

This is a great game iv played it for over 2 years and it never gets old make a 2nd 1
