Reviews for "Epsilon Strain"

Nice, but not excellent

Ok, the idea of the game was great and i had a lot of fun playing it (and i bet that is the main idea of any game).

I liked the basic idea of the system, but i think that half the weapons were useless... i kind of played 3/4 of the game with a photon IV with a good upgrage... til the end Which i got an explosive upgrade (that i loved with all my heart... looking at those zombies explode was fun).

The game was kind of hard at the beginning , which is a good thing, but got too easy after you got a decent weapon. In the end i was just entering room, making them all explode and taking all the damage, and killing them before they even had a chance of taking 1/4 of your armor.

good game, i got to say... but it was not an excellent game. 5/5 and a 9/10 (just because i had a lot of fun!!!!)

hope to see more. :)

Reminds me off GTA2...

It looks like GTA 2 - Zombie Space Station. But seriously this game is well made but too repitetive and waaaay too easy. the only kinda difficult sector was number one, later on you had weapons that mowed your enemys down.

my advice: get a fast shooting weapon, neutron or tachyon, get some chip that enhances the damage and lowers the intervals and then just run in circles while shooting. thats the way I made it through this game and died not once.

well...

It was alright but it was fairly repetitive and after i while i didnt feel like playing. Also you could of added the feature of switching weapons, gemme a reason for all that inventory sppace. I mean i really only needed on main weapon and that was it.

OK! Where to start...

First I would like to say, I played all the way through, and enjoyed myself. I will get to the winning/redeeming attributes shortly, but I would like to get the detrimental components out of the way.

Getting stuck on a wall: I found this glitch a few times. While gliding along a wall, one finds that they cannot LEAVE the wall. When one is simultaneously attempting to flee from baddies, this is a horrible glitch that makes gamers cry everywhere.

The logo at center top: Let's say I am going into an north facing door, and I have my cursor above me in preparation of laying waste to mine foe. Then let's say that there is a logo in that same spot. I enter the room, and where I would much prefer to be laying said waste, I am, instead, looking at a new web page. Subsequent to the hypothetical blood being spilled, there may or may not be hypothetical tears.

Difficulty curve: A little steep in the beginning (especially for a player trying to learn your controls and system), and a little flat at the end. Towards the beginning, I am trying to learn your weapon's strengths/weaknesses, and I may or may not be learning the necessity of strafing. A little leniency from my undead compatriots would be appreciated. Thereafter, towards the end, I likely did NOT need the final health boost because I was already absorbing waves of enemy attacks without too much fret.

Broken weapons: This is only a half-hearted complaint to be truthful. I LIKE laying waste, as previously mentioned. I really do. There were some points, however, where being God just wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

For those interested - my final weapons were:
Photon V +ss-photon
-Scatter
-Piercing
-Explosive shells
-room clearer
Tachyon V + Tachyon Strike II
-Extremely high rate of fire
-Piercing
-The Burninator. I would have stuck with this weapon if I did not find the next one to be more effective for suppressing enemies.
Nuetron V + Nuetron Scatter III
-Excellent spread
-Shite distance and accuracy
-Best enemy suppression.
-My final challenge in the game was keeping the baddies off and away from me long enough to kill them. This did the job better than I expected. It is close to tachyon for damage, and beats it hands down for effective corralling of enemies. If you are trying to keep your accuracy rating high...stick with the Tachyon.

The good stuff:

An innovative system:
You plunked an entirely new system of weapons in front of the player and fundamentally said "have fun." Coincidentally, I did! I ENJOYED exploring the weapon combinations and determining which weapon type did the most owning! Most importantly, and I mean this, you did not punish a player for learning that some of your weapons SUCKED!

The plasma was a huge steaming pile of fail, in my opinion. You could not attach a scatter to it without nerfing its damage while maintaining a cost prohibitive energy cost. If you wanted to go for a high damage rapid fire weapon, you were ultimately better off with the photon for its minimally lower damage but ENJOYABLY lower energy cost and interval of fire!

The tachyon is the only weapon that managed to do the "rapid fire, low damage, low cost," model well, and that was only towards the end of the game. The nuetron tried and failed...repeatedly.

Level Replay:
You let the player replay lower difficulty levels. This let us test out new weapon set and see how they worked. Brilliant. This ALSO let us earn more money if we were not done experimenting. Also Brilliant.

Marathon of blood, and gore, and death:
I am not saying that it can SAVE a game, but with a good system backing it up, a bit of carnage can take a game a LONG WAY. (Look at "Carmageddon")

Length:
As in the complaint section, this is only a half-hearted compliment. I felt the length was nice, and the balance of unlocked items was relatively fair. It seemed a TAD too long for the repetitiousness, but otherwise filled my stocking nicely.

Overall, A good game, worth playing through at LEAST once.

Nice but could have been more.

I enjoyed the game but as with the other reviews it was indeed repetitive and having the final weapon with the final upgrade owns everyone. I also would have wanted to fight a boss perhaps. :D
