Reviews for "Delusions of Grandeur"

very good!

It's kind of like the picture on the "change of heart" yu-gi-oh card...is it a contrast between what you like and dislike? I like the wrinkly clthing effect on the jeans and the suit in the left picture! If you hadn't said that it was rushed, I never would have guessed. Overall, awesome painting!

thefallingashes responds:

I'm really enjoying that people are responding differently to this painting! I don't really know of this yu-gi-oh thing but sounds interesting. The painting is meant to represent the life of a sufferer of delusions of grandeur. That is, they live in their dreams, even when 'they are awake' - constantly locked into a dream.

Thanks for the interest!

Hmmm..

Nice concept, powerful contrasts.
Struck as the difference between your logical left brain and your creative right brain, eh?

thefallingashes responds:

Nice bit of thought you put into that. I'll be honest when I didn't mean for that effect! I am actually cross-dominated, so whilst not what you would call ambidextrous [I cant do most tasks with both hands]; I do about 50% of my life left handed and the other 50% right handed... so perhaps your analysis is something I shoved in there subconciously!

If only I'd had another 15 hours to work on this piece and not rush it... oh well!

Good

if you've ever read a mad magazine it's like one of those folding things at the back page, it's like crysiscell said Quote "I do like the contrast between the two scenes. The vibrant colors vs the dull greys". very good i think this is one of best work yet.

very nice

while I've never seen Dream Theater....I do like the contrast between the two scenes. The vibrant colors vs the dull greys. A nice description of work and play, I suppose.

thefallingashes responds:

Dream Theater are a band. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is my favourite album by them, and the title track is a monsterous 42 minutes long. 5 of those minutes are a movement about a man with Delusions of Granduer. He thinks he is constantly conducting an orchestra. Loved the song and thought 'why not?'

The piece is huge though, and unfortunetly wont hang on a wall [it would literally rip the fittings out]. Stupidly I painted this on two 8mm 5ftx2ft boards. I can hardly lift them together! But the contrast was the point. I mean afterall, whats the point in a painting if there's nothing good to compare against?

:D
