Reviews for "Delusions of Grandeur"

Grandeur*

Being a French grammar Nazi, I had to remind you it's spelled "Grandeur".

thefallingashes responds:

noted :D

thanks!

Wonderful painting

An ambiguous painting, very thought provocating, it can be interpreted in varing degrees. My interpretation is long, but I hope it contributes to it's mysteriousness of it.

I get the feeling he's being torn apart with the ideologies of extreme logic, the doctor embodies everything that is associated with rationality, while the other image embodies everything associated with our mental creativity that has no standards. It's represented in such a way, that ingeniousness is mistreated and misunderstood as insanity by those who are too far inclined with a high degree of Rationality. while on the contrary, his mental states are well balanced, represented as a tune, a sort of melody all interacting seamlessly peacefully, which are represented on the faces of the musicians, ranging from sadness, hopelessness, peace and happiness, he has it all under control, which he is the conductor of his own psyche. my conclusions, people who are outside the pocket of society can appear and seem strange because they perceive reality differently, which is like a melody, sometimes intelligence takes on the fringes of insanity because people aren't used to being challenged intelligently.

thefallingashes responds:

Long winded, but it makes me REALLY happy that it has provoked you to think outside the box. This piece is my favourite because it is the most subjective of my work. Unfortunetly, that doesn't stop it rotting in parents garage. I wish I had space!

Thanks for the (valuable!) input - hopefully it's a good example to others looking at this!

Rushed or not...

This truly is a great piece to look at! Nice work!
I wish my rushed work looked that good...

thefallingashes responds:

I'm glad! but I would love to try something like this again. The only difficulty is that in real life, it is MASSIVE. When I used to have studio space at school, it wasn't such a problem. But now, I'm in a grotty flat in london that has hardly any space.

I can only make work like this when its big. This one is roughly a 5 foot square. I have a painting on the way now, but it's too small and I'm getting frustrated and consequently haven't touched it for a few months. Sigh!

I find it kinda sad.

it's like he's being diagnosed of being delusional, how tragic, our happiness may only be an illusion. True art invokes emotion.

thefallingashes responds:

That's an interesting analysis! Not something I'd planned, but due to the subjective nature of the piece, I'm happy it means something to people!

wow

this is great so different than most of the art on newgrounds. usually its a futuristic scene or some slutty girl or monster. my favorite of your art. one small thing I liked is that you put little detail in the doctors office just a window and then so much on the band. gives the piece a larger effect to me

thefallingashes responds:

I'm glad you noticed that - it was meant to be a cutting contrast between the panels. When you see it in person, this piece is nearly as tall as me. So that white void appears even bigger and emptier!

Thanks for your support! it means alot. I've been struggling to find motivation for my latest painting but since the frontpage has got me a lot of exposure, maybe I should continue! :)
