Reviews for "The Necronomicon 2.0"

good update

the new cards and artwork was great
the changes to cards was generally good
like i said about the first version, its a dark version of the game 'maganic wars' with some interesting additions/removals (sanity/insanity, the creatures and how they act as opposed to just the counter attack, and the lack of the rune power up/super saiyan and the items)
as it is currently... this game is fantastic and really wouldnt need to be changed/updated
a lot of people are asking for a deck editor, in theory it sounds good, but in general it would be abused and used to create devastating decks that make the game too easy
you would need to balance them by a) limiting the number of duplictae cards that are allowed in the deck, b) creating a point system with a value for each card (better cards have a higher point value) so that players need to reach both a minimum card amount as well as a maximum point amount so they dont load up on powerful cards and c) make sure that the computer opponent is using the same deck as the player
and you would need to atleast double the amount of cards in the game
also an online multiplayer would be simply epic, either allowing players to battle and compare decks or force them to use the same deck, and a deck viewer/trade mode

back to this game, it is still mostly based on luck but it also has a good portion of strategy invloved. there is rarely a situation that cant be won with a good strategy. it is challenging and addictive, an excellent combination
9/10 just because like i said it is basically a dark copy of maganic wars, whether you intended it to be that way or not
any additions stated are not necessary IMO but would definately elevate this game to epic heights

Good

A great improvment from the original, deffinatly with the new art which was great
tho i miss the original shambler but the new shoggoth is represents it so perfectly.

Some suggestions.
- diffrent sounds
- more lovecraft oriented cards
- diffrent play tables
- death metal music to play to haha

Glitch

Found all monster attacks went through invunrablility, Yes all of them. It sucked when you counted on them >-> and it also made the invunerablility close to useless besides gaurding against spells.

Plowking74 responds:

Invulnerability is a tad misleading, will change it to arcane or spell defense or something. It isn't meant to prevent against creature attacks, only the spells (which can be the most damaging)

much better than the first

pros:
*good job adding the discard feature it was greatly needed
* adding extra abilities to creatures to create more variety and strategy was a nice touch.

cons:
*old illustrations for cards looked much better and seemed to fit the style better, new style is too cartoony; it seems to conflict with the surreal atmosphere you're trying to create.

things to add:
*like planet mentioned, the ability to manilpulate ones deck would add ALOT more strategy not to mention make the game funner and addicting.

*Perhaps incorporating multiple use of summons - or creating a certain number of "slots" for summons (example - a slot to place a summon creature in an "offensive" position and another for a "defensive" position. would add more strategy, and maybe the ability to add or manipulate these extra slots.)

*Perhaps a creature that can attack once when it comes into play (as a special effect), or a creature that can attack normally (as a special card)

*I dont remember if you changed the way the different types of insanities affect you, but i had a suggestion for one of them; the one where you are limited to using only 2 cards. Well i was thinking why dont you randomize that effect So that you could only use 2 random cards every turn instead of just the first 2?

*adding another type of insanity that forces you to discard 2 cards every turn....or something of that nature.

Final Notes:

*I liked how you used different elements to create the dark card game environment/atmosphere and tie everything together, such as the use of dark ambient music. I was thinking perhaps adding a selection for background music?

*I am a big fan of card games myself, grew up playing magic....its good to see one of this genre. Keep revising and improving it and eventually get it published :)

You have the ability ot make this an execelent gam

In all honesty I couldn't give this a 10 our of 10 for the fact the game still leaves some things to be desired.

Now I have played (excuse the language) shit out of the first one because I am a card game nerd/geek/whateveryouwanttocallit and the thought of having a new game to play that was dark (I like dark games peroid ect. Silent Hill, Resident Evil ect.)was just a wonderful feeling and dark.

As before I like the way you incorporated the feeling of differnt card games, Magic, YuGiOh, Naurato and many others wither or not you tried to do this I still loved the game and concept in general.

Now as stated in the post (or given that I am writing a lot a few posts) before me it may take a lot of code but to have the ability to modify your deck and choose what cards you have would greatly make the experience people have of your game a great one.

Also I know it is very challenging ( I have tried before with several existing games) to create from scratch cards that are balanced enough to put into the game but if you could double or hell even triple the number of cards you have (or could have in your deck) you might even have a card game that might have enough backing to get published. Which in itself is reason enough to try to see if you could get Upper Deck to look into.

But getting back to topic at hand you have a potiental(sp) winner in your hands. Bottom line you are doing a fantastic job with artwork, game play mechanics and so on....but you need, More cards, Deck editing, and multi player with minimal bugs and you have a game that could be on the x-box live arcade on sell for 400-800 Microsoft points aka 5-10 bucks.

But with the crit out of the way you are doing a good job and keep working hard but like I said this game still leaves some to be desired....

9/10 5/5
