Reviews for "The Rise of a KING"

The only problem is that the guy moves too slow and there isn't much to play but still, as expected of Seething Swarm, the game is amazing.

The purpose of me creating an account at NewGrounds is solely for telling you what you are about to read. I first played this game around December, 2008. Back then I would rarely play video games or access the web. But this game made an impression to me. It was by far my favourite. A decade later, I return, still remembering not only the name of the game, but even details from optional NPC conversations. I once again play the game fully, from start to end in one sitting. What you have done with this game is truly unique. The story, art-style, animations, music and theme work together fabulously. The approach of having portals to travel around the map is also important to the success and impact of the story. Unlike other 2D games, you can actually get lost searching for villages, hidden taverns, the witch hut, graveyard... It isn't just restricted to moving left and right. It has depth. This game is truly of great excellence, and for that I congratulate you, even more so for your decision of releasing it completely free, for its purpose is not to make money (just like most games filled with micro-transactions) but good story telling. And this isn't just good story telling. It is story telling done right.

SeethingSwarm responds:

You have no idea how much this means to me. Thank you! I really appreciate that you took the time to make an account and to write me these kind words :) I'm really glad you enjoyed the game again even after all these years!

ITS A FUCKIN AWESOME GAME, just need some bugs and glitches fixed. BUT WHO GIVES A FUCK ITS A REALLY GOOD GAME!

SeethingSwarm responds:

Heh, thanks! :)

This would be a great game if it got a handful of improvements.

-Needs more save-game locations. Going through 3 forests and a castle to get to a save-game spot is not fun, when I just want to save my progress and shut my computer down.
-Needs less distance between objectives.
-I found myself getting lost and not knowing where to go, quest log is not very informative and the King i took the first quest from refuses to talk to me again about the quest, he just orders me to get the job done.
-When you view controls or look at your quest log, you get in combat and can't fight back until you get out of the quest-log screen, which is annoying. Making the game freeze when you view quest log or controls would be a huge improvement.

SeethingSwarm responds:

Thanks for all the constructive criticism! I agree 100%
I'm glad you enjoyed this old game of mine even though it has many design flaws :)

best game from my past as far i can remember reminds me of playing god of war 1 and 2 !!!!!

SeethingSwarm responds:

I can't believe you just compared one of my oldest games to God Of War. That's awesome! Really glad you enjoyed playing it and thanks for the 5 stars!
