Reviews for "Morrowind [Ocarina]"

This shouldn't be here.

Because I too can download a midi of this song and replace is with a flute synth (Or make my own) and add a reverb.

Even if you did make this yourself, it's nice and all, but too simplistic to get the top area.

Ocarina-Kid responds:

I think we know by now this shouldn't be in the top 5, hell it shouldn't even get a 6. Maybe a 1 for at least using capitals in the title.

Morrowind

The ocarina truly has a magical sound.
However, this cover is rather dull. The main themes are bland, and the piece itself is repetitive. Having heard the original Morrowind theme, this song is in many ways, an insult.
This does not live up to the original piece. And even when that is disregarded, this piece is still little more than average.
But, no matter what, the Morrowind theme shall always be beautiful. And there is indeed some beauty in the singularity of this piece.
The good outweighs the bad.
It may not live up to the original, but its something of its own.

It's erm... Sort of nice...

It fails to capture the feel and soul of the real song, the notes aren't held long enough. And it would be nice if the title was the name of the actual SONG, and not the game. Because this song is from a game called Morrowing (The Elderscrolls: III Morrowind to be exact) And the song is called "Call of Magic" Overall I'm not a fan of this. And this song was actually immensly popular, and mind you it was the theme song for the game, also played at the Title Screen.

Ocarina-Kid responds:

Sorry, I was considering writing a research paper on the song but it slipped my mind.

Alright.

Well, you've proved to me that you can sound out songs. I don't know if we're supposed to think it's a real ocarina, but I don't. Taking that into account, it's an unadventurous and boring track. If you had been playing live instruments, then sure, this would be impressive. If there had been any kind of accompaniment, I'd give you some props. As it is, though, I fail to see anything particularly interesting or exceptional about this.

Ocarina-Kid responds:

I don't really understand what you're getting at but believe what you want man, doesn't bother me. This is the internet after all.

Well

Honestly, for someone who has heard the original Morrowind theme, this is slightly disappointing. I've figured out the notes for this song before and played around with the melody, but I never uploaded any results because it couldn't come close to matching the original.

Copying the melody of a great song and simply playing it on one instrument just seems really lame if you've heard the original before. A fully developed remix of the original, same melody but entirely different genre, would be much better.

This is not comparable to the original, nor is it a very good song in itself as the ocarina is a low quality synthesized imitation of an ocarina, the melody isn't your own creation, and those are the only two things that make up this entire song.

It probably seems like I'm just bashing your song for no reason because I'm a Morrowind fan, but honestly, you could do a lot more than just copy the melody, and you didn't. That is why I criticize this song. If you don't want criticism, I encourage you to make a complete remix of the Morrowind theme, or simply refrain from submitting unoriginal melodies to the Audio Portal.

3 stars for allowing people who have never heard the original the privilege of hearing this amazing melody.
