...... Duno what to score

Ok man but it needs more things on it.

Missions, do the flags significative in any way, getting items or some secrets arround, faster gold (Game is too long for being always fight-getmoney-spendmoney-fight all the time).
Taking towns also should have any usage, and maybe nations could seek you if you pirate them or .. well

VERY IMPORTANT RADAR ON BATTLES or smaller fighting place because it gets BORING very BORING when you cant find the enemy ship for some minutes.

All those things belong to you. The idea is cool anyway, so i'm not giving a bad score. Please do a 2nd version or something. I like your games, played some of them, and I know you can do it much better.

Good concept ... but broken game

If all the bugs were fixed, and the game made a bit easier (easier to get gold as well), it would be a good game. I had 45 men and failed to take over a small town ... even after I eradicated most of their soldiers.

tradewinds vs this

Sorry, but the controls in battle are just a little too sluggish. The clouds are too good at hiding where you or your enemy are from you, without hiding it from your enemy. The cannon upgrade only seems to be good for range and not potency, and it doesn't seem to matter what side for which you work. It seems like most of the times someone plays, they'll end up dead after only a few battles. Crew number doesn't seem to have any advantages, likewise the specific kinds of ammo. It's just too easy to die, and what's this crap about having to give up your ship when you want to retreat?
I used to play tradewinds 2 all the time, and looked at this game as being a free version of that, but there's no way to make money as a simple merchant, which adds a neat economic dimension whereby a person can trade or scout around to attack ships or build up defenses on your ship to defend against attacks. Also, there are no missions that can get a player a nice item or even some cold cash. This game has a nice design that is a lot smoother than some similar games, but fails to live up to player expectations and is simply to frustrating with repeated problems facing the player. You find yourself in over your head too quickly; if you choose to attack a ship or ships, then you run the risk of dying. In one case, I had a ship on its knees only to run out of ammo and have too many crew to fight off. This game is a real disappointment for someone like me, who is a big fan of these kinds of games and looks forward only to better games in this genre. To be honest, I'm thinking I'll just go buy one of the Tradewinds games.
This one is only worth playing a few times before you bid it adieu.

Great game.

It's quite hard, in terms of getting money. I think that whoever you join shoul give you missions instead of just running under the flag. Because in my eyes it's a waste of 2500 gold.

Also, the battles are difficult. I think that you should be able to see (vaguely) what ships you're fighting, as well as being able to see what nation and how many. Because I can't tell if I'm about to fight a dinky little boat or a massive great 60 cannoned warship.

Those are just the improvements I think you should make. This is a fantastic game, and I echo what the guy below me said. You should be proud.

I give you 9/4, and would've given 10/5 if it was just a bit easier and/or faster.

A beautiful, well made game

This is incredible, I don't know what all these idiots are talking about. Yeah, it looks like you took a lot of elements from Sid Meyer, but that doesn't matter. You made this game and brought it to Newgrounds. Honestly, its scale and its ship fighting combat are astounding! You managed to do what Sid Meyer did, minus a few elements, in a flash game, for free. Be proud, dude, you did good. Ten stars, and I fived you.
