wow

Bravo! I'm a big fan of turn-based strategy games, but they are so rare these days. Having it based on one of my favorite movies fills a void for which I've waited a long time. This game is intense, and extremely difficult. It took a few tries to get the hang of it, and even then success is not guaranteed. I've managed to get through the first level with no wounds or losses, and the second with only one or two losses, only to get totally creamed on the third stage. So far I've only beaten it once and even then I made it out with only two people each carrying somebody. For this reason, it'd be really nice if you could make some sort of save feature between stages, since it's a bit of a bummer doing so well up until the last stage to lose it all. I love the music and sound effects from the movie, and it just makes the game so much more intense. I tremble playing this game, as these creatures absolutely terrified me as a child, and still do so. I can't play any of the FPS Alien games for that reason, so I'm so happy you made this.
Are you familiar with Space Hulk or Hero Quest? I think you'd be able to do these games similar justice.

homedrone responds:

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Space Hulk. But the reason I could make this game was that it became freely distributable. I could make a Space Hulk game, but GW would shut it down when then heard about it. Also, to be honest, my coding skills are limited. The ALIEN AI for this game was fairly simple, so I figured I could do it. Even then, I haven't fully achieved the level of intelligence the ALIENS have in the real board game. And I hear you on the save feature. It's been suggested before. But its a short game. Just 3 stages. You can play them all in 30 to 40 minutes. I feel I would actually reduce the replay ability of the game by adding a save feature. I'm hoping that the satisfaction of winning will balance the frustration of having to replay each time. Props for clearing the reactor with everyone. I've only done that 3 times, and I've done a lot of playtesting.

Glorifies Cruelty to Aliens!

As a member of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Aliens), I think it's disgusting that you've made a "game" of killing these beautiful, intelligent creatures!

Do you know how many aliens are needlessly slaughtered every year by space marines, predators, and sites nuked from orbit?

How you can glorify such cruelty is beyond me.

homedrone responds:

You know, I don't know which species is worse. You don't see them %#$@!ing each other over for a higher rank on Newgrounds.

Memorable

I only played the first level (bit short on time right now), but it really had all the things I loved about the movie in it. Since I dont know the board game, I can't speak about how accurately the gameplay has been captured - I just have to say that it is near to impossible to shake off an alien, or kill it with the handgun. Since I forgot who of my marines had what kind of weapon, A kind reminder like different action markers for each weapon would stop me from torching my marines by accident...

homedrone responds:

I added an indicator if an alien is on a marine when selecting targets. If you forget what weapon a marine has, look at his monitor at the top. There is a picture of their weapon in blue.
