Reviews for "Music Box Waltz"

Mysteriously Calm

First of, I absolutely loved the beginning . To me , it had a really mysterious but calm vibe to it . I pictured it as a sad and lonely memory .

Around the middle , I liked how it changed a bit . Instead of staying mysterious and calm , you made it sound suspenseful and I visualized it to be gradually getting rapid then it was at the beginning .

Finally , at the end , I definitely imaged the memory taking it to a more rapid conflicting idea even though it still appeared suspenseful . The ending really put an end to that "conflict."

As the song , I really did picture a short story of a person's memory being retraced ; however , it really could fit into many genres .
My only slight issue that didn't change my perspective of the whole song , was that you didn't exactly keep it as a Music Box sound ; however , i do see that you added various instruments from your comment .

So great job all together . I enjoyed listening to this tune . :]

Rampant responds:

Thanks for the review, I'm glad you enjoyed the track :)

I'm glad the general consensus is that it fits in many genres, that's good to know; and I'm glad that the music conjured up imagery and, especially, emotion.

I suppose it does have a use in many genres.

Thank you very much, again, for taking the time to listen and review!

So sad

It would make for a very nice song to hear in an ambient horror game, as credit music, or simply as lullaby music to put young ones to sleep and let them dream of better things, endless things. The chords that start to come in around 1: 00 makes it sound even nicer as well. I could picture seeing this in an anime about some princess running from home and eventually getting lost and succumbing to the underside of Tokyo I guess.

The tune is just very mentally pleasing to hear and it makes you feel so sad yet sad as well since this song could go well to a variety of videos actually. Very nice work on this, keep on making lullabies I guess. Looking forward to more.

Rampant responds:

Thanks for the review SCTE3.

I'm glad that you think it would work in more than just one genre, I'd never imagined this as working well in an anime, but now I think about it, I suppose it could work.

I'm very glad that it was pleasing to listen to, and thank you again for the review.

Beautiful

Hey RampantMusik,

--Production--
First off, the music box sounds are exquisitely clear and beautiful on the ears. When the orchestra comes in, it fills up magnificently and things get Tim Burton up in here! It kind of sounds like Greensleeves to be honest, at one point, so I'm not sure whether that was purposeful or not.

--Experience--
Leads us on an emotional journey through a delicate kid's toy noises into something further. Sounds like something I heard off Coraline, actually. When she's walking around the spooky grounds, seeing all the wondrous sights and images of the past. (Very scary kids movie.)

--Style--
I can see that you are inspired by Danny Elfman in just the way that you orchestrate. This Musik isn't exactly Rampant (;)) but it's a calm sort of peaceful aura, yet an eerie one. It would be great for a sad flash that has a creepy element to it.

--Wow Factor--
The crispness of the sounds and the quality of the production lends to the overall atmosphere of the song. The orchestratic elements are well composed, too, almost professional. It's definitely got the waltz chord progression that I've heard done before.

--Personal Tilt--
Honestly, sounds like something from a movie. Not very far away from professional. Could definitely be used in many flashes with the intent of bringing emotion and an eerie quality. Thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for letting me listen.

Hi, Ben,
First off, can I just say I love your avatar? Smiley glasses dude ftw!

Thanks for the review, and it's certainly quite apparent that you've spent a good deal of time on it.

The similarity to Greensleeves was completely unintentional (I'd never actually heard it before -- now that I've YouTube'd that song I can see the resemblance). As for the similarity to Elfman and Coraline, well, Coraline is one of my favourite movies, and Elfman's one of my favourite film composers. Certainly not my only favourites, but definitely up there!

Originally, when I chose the name RampantMusik, I had intended to write production tracks, for trailers et al, but there's just so much more to music than writing big, epic tracks -- sometimes you need to write sadder ones to balance everything out :D

Almost professional! Why, sir, I'm speechless. Thank you very much! Writing scores to films is ultimately what I want to do for a career -- it's nice to see that someone thinks I'm already heading on the right track!

Thank you very much for the review :)

Danny Elfman woud be

proud that you've been inspired by him. I think you've captured his essence in this piece. It's simple, elegant, and has that dark feeling that is present in Tim Burton's movie. You're dead on in your style homage to Elfman.

Bravo!

:D

Rampant responds:

Wow! To say I've captured Elfman's style, that's a huge compliment!

Thanks for your review! :D

Haunting.

This would be perfect for a halloween flash submission. It sounds like you pulled back some of the notes juuust behind the beat, making the song sound slower than it actually is, which adds to the hanting atmosphere. A fantastic entry to the competition, best of luck!

Rampant responds:

I was listening to some old music boxes, and I realized a lot of them have some notes that seem to 'double,' where one is behind the beat slightly, so that's what I attempted to mimic.

Haunting is good. I think? Heh, well thank you very much for the review :)

Best of luck to you in the comp as well. Your majestic 'depths-of-space' entry is quite fantastic as well :) (P.S. I meant, your track does sound like "I'm the king of space." So, my apologies -- I should have been clearer in my review.)
