...
I don't get why this game is getting so much praise... The text and story are even emptier than the oldschool sega beat-em-ups and characters manage to have even less personality than those games' protagonists had.
The clipping is horrible, I mean I've never in my life seen a fist have greater range than a sword but apparently this game bends reality and allows it. Any enemy with a ranged attack is prone to ultimately lame you to death by camping and shooting you down.
The game utterly lacks a defensive maneuver, a guard or dodge skill that would highly ensure survivability given that few if any battlefields even have health powerups.
Items are madly underpowered and very cost-inefficient, the first gun weapon being a 7-shot pistol at a cost of $6,500. Considering the gun itself costs $6,000, and the 7 rounds of ammo are $500, you'd expect something worthwhile, but no.
And since it takes 2 levels and a numbero f deathmatches to even get that kind of money, you'd think you might be ready to face a boss at the third level with a gun right? Maybe you would be if that boss didn't have an axe attack that sweeps past 1/4th of the playing field, had an infinite range machinegun spray, and a close-range eye laser.
I've yet to understand why I see "This is the best" in other reviews, unless these people have not played the arcade and console classics, because this ends up being more of an insult to the genre than a flash masterpiece.
