I have to say something

I tried this out on rustygames and I had to say something. I cant let this go.

At first, i thought i was doing something wrong. How could this game by so slow and horrible with controls? i must be missing a button to "run" or jump or something, but no, thats the game. Do you realize that in your game, you spend 45 seconds to slowly, slowly, SLOWLY inch your way over even the smallest hill little by little every single time there is a hill? You do know you're supposed to give CONTROLS to your games, right?

But oh, i always give every game a chance. Ive played hundreds and hundreds of flash games, and i give every one a chance no matter what it seems like at first. So i played your game, and its the same thing. The graphics and general look of the game is so nice, its just rather shocking the gameplay is so bad from the look of the game. Of course it reminds me of LocoRoco, but in slow motion. I very much enjoy LocoRoco, so i was in a positive view right off the bat. And from playing the game, i know it COULD be fun like LocoRoco, but jeeze man, you do realize that you almost cant even make it over the very first hill before level 1, right? When i first started, i had to go back and get a running head start to get to start the game. Thats not a good start.

So i played your game, and while on level 2, I pushed the bolder over the last hill, and the boulder hopped up and basicly took too long to fall, so my blob rolled off the right hand ledge despite my best efforts to stop, and i had to restart the whole stage again, which wouldnt have been bad except it takes SOOOO LONG to move in this game that i just bought myself another 10-15 minutes of anguish because of poor game design.

And man, is there anything else in the game other than pushing the boulder? Some substance would be nice. I just hate to see such a nearly flawless programming go to waste with such poor game design. I think you should check out more games online in what people want, and rather than going by what newgrounds votes for in a game (interactivity, violence, style, which dont make sense) and see what normal console games are voted on. Graphics, Sound, CONTROLS!, and Fun(aka game design or things to do in the game) Graphics and Sound are right on, and the game engine is ready for an awesome game to be made, but controls and substance is what lacks.

Man, im sorry but i have to speak what i think. i know it looks harsh but i really do give all flash games a chance and dont vote based on who made it, but on the merits of the game. and sorry for such a long review. blah

dELtaluca responds:

you do realise that up and down are also controls? and think about it physically, if you are applying a force up and down aswell, then you can move faster on slopes as the resolved part of the force is larger?

I love this game.

I can't stop playing this. It's so fun and addicting. If you're wondering why I gave a 10 for humor, I found a very funny glitch. Message me for how to do it or i can send you the video I made of it.

At long last.

I've been waiting a long long time to see a game from you, I am somewhat of a secret fan of yours, I love to see your game engines and such posted on the bbs and some of your codes.

The game itself I thought was good fun and played it for quite awhile although it isn't really designed in a way to reach large audiences, not many will enjoy the slow paced physic related theme to the game although I thought it was quite fun.

The fact that you had those little notes in between levels I thought was cool and enjoyed, although I don't think many would think much of that either, however it was very you.

Overall I think the game had a particularly excellent engine although as far as game design and attraction to a widespread audience goes I don't know that it went so well. Either congratulations on the release of your first game and now perhaps you will start to look more into game design rather than actual coding, more playability should be your next step. Good piece none the less.

Also I was surprised that Mr. Every possible detail must be correct would make the crazy mistake of having single bodies of water leveling off at different heights. Surely you would know that one body of water's top will all level out at exactly the same height all over :P.
(I guess rules need to be bent to make a game interesting=D).

Good Work

dELtaluca responds:

thanks, as for you mr every possible detail.

i DID actually before starting this game, when working on a similar engine, i actually had all water being a soft body aswell, so that when the player's soft body moved through it, the water responded to the movement, so that when you crash into it it caused waves to explode out left and right, when moving near the surface you could alter the surface shape, and when throwing yourself out it caused waves to form aswell

but clearly it didn't run fast enough :p

hmm...

impressive... but extremely boring and slow... i'd like to see some gory action games from you

dELtaluca responds:

well the general consencus has been its speed, so ive tried to speed it up a bit without having to completely redesign the levels, and i do have alot to learn about game design, hopefully things will improve in terms of gameplay the next time i make a game :)

...

it look like Gish, a lot, but without the gameplay.

And like the other one said, too slow.
Give more control (like "jump") and more speed.

otherwise.. good potential.
