Reviews for "Sleepless Nights"

You must have some interesting dreams

I'll say it again, you must have some very interesting dreams.

I must say, this is a great piece of flash art. You have talent. You worked on something for months and it shows. I think if more people put as much time into their submissions Newgrounds would be great.

Please continue to work with animation and flash. Good luck.

notorious responds:

Thanks i will totally continue to work with animation and flash thanks for the good review! And dreams. I'll work on those too.

experiMENTAL!

nice animation - i liked the music, worked well with the bizarre 'dream'. keep up the good work, 4/5

I'm gonna make it brief... I think

Good flash... The music is chosen very well! Fits with the whole genre and mood.
You create a good environment. Everything seems caothic and "insane" actually... But I don't think you nailed the scaryness/creepyness. It could've been a bit more bizarre and maybe some darker scale colours. It's a good flash, but it kinda needs that exact extra thing. The skill that enables you to make something distorted. Probably you didn't intend to make it fully disturbing for the viewer, but the intro ("It comes", "it feeds" "those restless souls") just indicates that. So try to find some inspiration and figure out the tricks that makes gives it the higher score on the scare-O-meter. (Perhaps David Firth in here? "Saw" and "The grudge" maybe? Or maybe watch that infamous Korn video)...
Oh, and maybe you should stop throwing cam-feed of yourself in there. No, definately you should stop it. It ruins the flow of the movie and disturbs the whole mood.

Good job, other than that. Hope my review could prove usefull :)

notorious responds:

well see the kid in the video is actually part of the story, and it's actually based on some of the dreams i have. If it was just the 2 videos strung together it wouldn't make any sense, if it DOES make sense right now at all. But thanks for your review, and yes it will be useful!

¹³...

This was sort of odd, creepy, nice, my style of thoughts, and funny at the same time.
The movement of the white figure was very awkward, it looked like it was limping, please draw some of your attention to that.
Also..As I noticed, that guy in the movie is you..Right?..
How did you come up with this idea?Does this remind you of your nightmares or what?
I loved the part where that one person fell out of the man's ear..That part was hilarious!!
Umm yeah..I hope you respond to this.

notorious responds:

Thanks for pointing that out to me, yeah, i did notice that myself while making it that the running guy's running is awkward, but you never know if it's that important or not until someone points it out to you! This idea actually just came to me as i was making 2 seperately different music videos (the first and second music parts, obviously) then i figured i'd string them together as a kid having 2 seperate dreams, and yeah this is how it ended up.

I'm glad you liked it and you should most probably deffinitly check out some more of my stuff!

recreating realism

+++ 'anxious' looking play button.

+++ Lovely macabre font for 'sleepless nights' before intro, 'dont sleep' in middle and also after ending.

---- Figure drawn in 'intro' looked rather unrealistic and rough

++ Crumpled paper provides interesting texture.

+++ Some lovely simple vector shapes. Specially the cartoon figures in segment 1, but also tentacles and 'blood' from dummy in segment 2.

--- Mouth and licking tongue also rough-looking

+++ effective use of masks.

++++ Great matching of visuals to music mood and tempo

--- No replay button.

??? Maybe in the end screen, have the eyeballs just visible, having rolled up to the top. So it's more obvious she's dead and you haven't just forgotten to draw the pupils and irises.

??? Maybe for intro/ending, a no-outline style could have worked better.

After a shaky intro, I really enjoyed the movie.

In the middle, I thought it was gonna end, but woah!

Your work seems best when you're not worried about recreating realism. Some movements, vectors, effects and textures are visually arresting and some sections seem flawlessly executed.

Shame that the start/end contains the worst graphics.

notorious responds:

Thanks for the good review. I'll be sure to improve on a lot of the bad stuff you said in my future animations!
