Reviews for Halloween Reprisal

Boring.

The game was just boring and repetitive. All you do is kill kids in 1/6 ways then move on to the next wave. It would have been nice to have a bit more of a storyline, or at least stick to the one you started with ( where was the magic candy? Not to mention the HUD? ). Another thing that caused a great deal of grief while playing was the detection system for killing the kids; it was just too picky, and it made the gameplay very restrictive.
But on the positive side, you had a very nice "how to play" section, and the main character looked pretty cool.
Its a good start, but it has lots of room for improvement.

understandable, thanks for the critique. we had a rather short deadline, so considering we had 3 weeks to work on this, it turned out pretty good.

the storyline was slightly altered because i was forced to take out the candy gameplay mechanic. read through my responses to other reviews to get why i had to. the HUD, i admit, was a little buggy. but it usually always came down on my computer.

as for the detection system...as you can see, the deaths in this game are very animation-driven. if i had made the hitbox wider, the animations (since they were in separate movieclips...maybe a bad move on my part) would have been out of sync with eachother, and some depend on being close so you can see them properly.

Pretty damn good

Considering the time you were given, and the deadline needed to be reached. I'd say this turned out really, really good all things considered. Only beef I had was the skeleton, bit lame. But other then that this game was damn entertaining for a Halloween theme, better then any I've come across in-so-far on Newgrounds in the nearly 3 years I've visited the site.

Another point for me was the music, bit of a music fanatic, your choice of audio was slick. Very slick.

All in all nicely done.

yeah, i suppose that, now you mention it, this game did turn out really good for only a few weeks of work. Blaze works really fast, especially with backgrounds. that's what made this possible (:

if you could explain to me or Blaze why the skeleton was lame to you, we'd both benefit. i respect your opinion, but at least back it up a bit.

I didn't like it.

It's just too simple for me. Even if your intention wasn't to make a challenging game, it's pretty boring to just walk around and kill kids.

it wasn't my intention to make it boring. it was supposed to be challenging, but the AI got screwed up at the last minute, and i had to take it out.

^^Good Points^^
This is a great game, no doubt. The graphics are definitely the best part in this. The scenes were all unique and were drawn very realistically. Great shading and animations too. The violence was top notch, it was surprisingly fun to kill a bunch of little ghosts. I liked the storyline in this, it was pretty fun to play.

^^Needs Improving^^
This get's old after a while. I found that even after 25 kills, the little dudes still didn't fight back, which was when I stopped playing. You should have added some more fun to this.

i'm sick of telling people about the lack of challenge. look through the past few reviews next time you critique someone's work; they may have been told this before and/or cleared it up, already.

you're one of the few that liked the storyline. people thought it was a serious attempt at a story, and it's really just one of those "heh" kind of things.
