Reviews for "Mobile Weapon Zero"

Balancing Issues:

This game was exceptional, but there was a little flaw with gameplay that hasn't really been addressed... fame exists for only one purpose. It would be really neat if fame did something like, say, boost your sword attack by X amount (equal to fame), and then you'd be able to make swords a bit more playable as well. Also, it would be good to have a way to speed up your bar, or display the enemies recharge bar. Other than that, just expand, and add some storyline.

It was good...

But it could have used a little more variety. The fights with the first two enemies were pathetically easy as long as you spammed you range attack and if you upgraded the gun, they were even easier. Also, there is no point to getting a sword at all in the game. Yes I noticed that your energy recharged faster when you used a sword attack, but your enemy almost always attacked with you anyway, and if they didnt then the lack of damaging power on even the strongest blade didn't make up for the extra speed involved. Just a suggestion, but maybe you could make swords more viable next round?

The visuals were great...as long as you never looked at your own unit. I loved how fluid the second enemies attack was, especially the tail attack. You actually get to see the tail raise into the air and the beam move up and hit your character. Then I look to my character as it raises up it's gun and become disappointed when it has no actual animation to it other than the gun is at its side and then the gun is aiming at the opponent.

Also, the sound was great and I love the Defcon Zero, however I dont love hearing Defcon Zero every single fight. Maybe add a second track in next time to give us some variety?

Another thing which would make the game more enjoyable would be to add more of a tradeoff for the weapons (mainly the ranged as the sword is pretty gimped as is). Like...the more max damage a gun can do, the less likely it is to hit. So when you get the secret weapon, you wouldn't automatically switch it out for your Napalm Scatterer because the chance to hit just might offset the amount of damage you do. As a sidenote to the tradeoff thing, maybe you could do the same thing for armor. Like say...the better armor you have on, the slower you attack. It'd be another one of those tradeoff things, would you rather attack twice compared to your opponents one, but die quicker; or would you rather attack at the same speed, or maybe half speed, but be able to take some serious punishment before dying?

One more suggestion before I'm out. I know it's not as easy to do as it is to say, but maybe you could try randomizing some things? Every enemy of the same type had the same...well everything. Health, damage ratios, loot, and fame all were exactly the same for each type of creature. Because of this (and the high yield of money you get from the second enemy), it was child's play to get enough money to buy the strongest gun and armor you can buy. So maybe you could randomize the money you get from an enemy, to a point that is. Like, have it in a range...say 50-200 for the first enemy, 250-500 for the second enemy, so-on-and-so-forth,

I'm not bashing your game, just giving some suggestions to make it better. I already like the game as is, but it just seemed too easy for me to actually enjoy completely. Anyway, those are just some suggestions and being completely programming illiterate, I have no clue how difficult it would be to put all those things into the game, so take from it what you will. Anyway, great game and keep up the good work.

Holy Nine Flaming Sphears of Hell

This game was awsome, The graphics were a thing of beauty, the game engine was solid, the plot was pretty good for a demo. Altogether the framework for a briliant game.

Do you know any C++ I need some help with my RPG engines XP

TylerProjects responds:

Ha... I only did 3months of 3D game programming in C++.. and thats 1 year ago.. :p

Not what i was expecting...

I figured it would be much better. I know, games are hard to program and play, but but that was pathetic. You got me thinking this would be some ff tactics/front mission/fire emblem kind of game. I was utterly dissapointed. Not only was there an extreme lack of interactivity (point and click to move/ click to attack or run away kind of thing) but the graphics where horible and the sound was lame. Why? Let me explain...

I figured this would be a real-time strategy game, or at least a tactics sytle game. Rpg's like this are boring, overrated and overused, and they suck. The synopsis of the battles: Click attack. Click attack. Click attack. Click attack. Win. LAME. If anything, try to add some variety. Make it so the battles are interesting, not a drag. Try adding some critical hit button that allows you to give extra damage if you time it right. Make it so that you can dodge manually. Add more characters, and make it so you can do co-op attacks with partners and stuff. Things like this take a minute of programming, and they make rpgs much better.

The animation needed a major tune-up. It looked like you used a 3-D animation program and imported the files into flash. That is the worst thing you can do. Flash looks horrible with 3-D animation. It's meant for cartoony graphics, not 3-D. The graphics themselves looked fine, but the game lost my interst after my second battle.

Finally, the sound was a chore to listen to. It totally didn't match the theme of the game. It was a light-hearted army march tune, while games like these needed a more serious, dark song that suits the graphics and animation. If you've ever handled song chioce in games like i have thousands of times, you'd know what i mean when i say how this games animation and graphics did not go well with the song choice. A rule of thumb: Cartoony games with light coloured graphics and well defined games go with happier tunes, while 3-D'ish, dark, smudgy and bland graphics go with darker tunes. Your graphics were a mix between the two extremes, and therefore you would have a tougher time in song selection.

Overall, this was not the worst. I realise that you tried hard and this was one of your first sucessful games. But seriously: Never try to make a Robot RPG. When people think mobile suits, they think Gudam Seed, and they think interactivity and a good storyline. Not this. You could have easily changed it's name into Bob's adventure, changed the names of the weapons and characters, and changed the graphics, and you would have an average joe, Lame-o rpg. Give your game a sense of originality and uniquness; something that sets it apart from every other game.

My Quote: Don't bitch about my review because you either A) Suck, B) Tried to do something hard and failed, which is better than nothing (this would be yours), C) have made me your enemy, D) deserve it, E)
F) made a game that's not my type, or G) are a noob. Thankyous for your time.

My second Quote: Don't bitch about me because i gave you a bad review by: A) saying i have never made a flash animation (which i have, but not in this account, B) cursing me because you are a fag who can't take criticism (i'll haunt you with Blams and bad reviews for the rest of my life), C) complain that everyone likes your game and i don't (because i set my standards higher and try to make people work harder) or D) Blamming me or giving me Bad reviews (because i'll never make a Flash animation in this accaount). Thankyous for your time.

TylerProjects responds:

Hi, thank you so much for your feedback, it is really valued and we really mean that.

This is one of our first time doing an rpg so if many of the elements like the music and the gameplay system seemed tacked on and out of place, it is because we are still in the process of finetuning it to make it a more coherent game.

Some response about points made in your review. Yes we realise that the point-click-attack system is really linear but we are exploring options to make it interesting. The 3d animation was made to allow for faster animation creation as well lay the foundation for multiplayer gameplay far far in the future.

Yes we realise that we have a lot to work on so thats why we really appreciate your comments and critiques.

the best
