Reviews for "Project: Monochrome"

Lacking..

this game was ok.. i wouldnt go any further..
the graphics looked like an old 60s sc-fi film. i didnt get the need for a black and white space shooter, ther is no need, or was it just down to being lazy? the sounds where repetative and annoying. you gave no explanation of the upgrades which are available to buy. if you have played a flash game called Raiden X then find it, play it and find out some ideas, because that is a good side scrolling space shooter.. sorry but i really disliked this and i think u know that u didnt put the effort of what you could have put into it.

Glaiel-Gamer responds:

The black & whiteness gives it style. I made it like that on purpose, not to be lazy. Do you realize how hard it is trying to make black and white stuff look good?

DO NOT COMPARE THIS TO RAIDENX! THEY ARE 2 DIFFERENT GAMES! Mine is a short mission-based space shooter with a shop for upgrades. Raidenx is a long level-based earth shooter with random upgrade pickups. There are clearly many differences between this and raiden. Mine is part strategy, raiden is pure action. Raiden and mine are both awesome, and that is a similarity.

It was okay.

I had fun for a little while, and I guess that's all I can ask. The black and white graphics didn't really "enhance" anything for me though. Stop saying it adds style because there was nothing stylistic about it. It's not like the shows you watch on TV would be any better if you beat the color out of them. There are better was to add style to things than sucking the color out of them.

good, but...

I liked it, but there are some problems too. I not always knew, what I'll fight with, so I sometimes choose a wrong weapon.
I hated those heavy bombers, becouse if I didn't spotted them in time, or they covered eachother, they were simply invincable. I really didn't miss them.
The final boss was too hard: it had too much hp, at the end I thought I must shoot it forever, altrough I used the 3. level laser. The "snowfall" that it made was wery-wery hard to dodge, but I got used to it finally. But to avoid the collosion I simply had to be lucky, becouse if it wants to hit u, u have zero chance to escape. And when I finally beated it, there was only a white screen with a simple line. U really could make some good outro in exchnge for the hard boss.
And I didn't even like the "fighting-style" of the final boss. It just moved from the left side to the right, then back, splitted the "snow" and sometimes made an irresistable charge. It wasn't boring only because I had to wach the bullets to dodge them. I think u shold make a weaker, but more exciting final boss, and some good outro.
Yeah, and u could change the music at the final levels, that wasn' good.

Good, but annoying

Firstly, a big gripe. The enemy ships have a tendency to drift off the side of the screen, making the Destroy levels much harder since you have to kill a certain amount of ships, and it's just not possible when a lot of them are dissapearing at the sides. What is even more annoying is when one of these ships doubles back from the bottom of the screen, hitting your ship and destroying you. the amount of times I have failed a level because a rubbish little A-class fighter has looped up from the bottom of the screen isn't even funny. I know there is the backshot weapon, but in these destroy type levels you don't usually use one as you are more focused on the horde of enemies coming straight for you.

On to more positive things... the selection of weapons on offer here is nice and widely varied, with some good upgrades for each of the weapons. The bosses are tough and taxing, but not overly so. There is a good mixture of different enemy types, and it is good to have a challenge in having loads of them coming at you at once (as long as it doesn't involve the aforementioned problems!)

Loved the style of the game with the black and white visuals and find it incredible that people are complaining about the lack of colour here. In a game called Monochrome. Yeah...

Overall this is a brilliantly realised shooter, with some great gameplay and visuals, that is let down by a couple of niggling flaws.

hrm...

It's OK but it's not my type of game
