I liked it
I like it very much. It dispels myths about Canada. Living in Michigan, Canada is right down the street (literally) from me. I find it very odd how stupidly Americans portray Canadians in the media and after visiting the country several times, I have come to the conclusion that it is probably a result of right wing politicians not wanting America to pick up on some distinctly Canadian ways of dealing with social issues. I fully agree with your diversity vs assimilation bit. For better or worse, Canadians seem to hold on to their ethnic identities much stronger than Americans do. In America, families eventually change to fit in. Its not 100% intentional, but it is inevitable. In Canada, I felt like I was in ten different countries at once. Toronto is especially this way. I didn't come away feeling what a "Canadian" was. America has many cultures, but to anyone born in the USA, ethnic culture is second (or even third) to being American. In Canada, I felt like most people put their ethnic culture first and country second.
Americans are one people under one flag. We just happen to come in many different colors. We are united. Canadians are many people under one flag. They have a different type of unity, however they are still united.
Two different sides of the same coin. Both good for North America!
