Clicking to get to certain areas in near impossible. I thought the trashcan was inaccessible. Animations need work

The game is a total mess. Moreover, the key doesn't work and I cant open the chest. Very, very bad.
Walkthrough (copied from page 60 and edited to fix grammar, and to make a bit more sense)
Walkthrough of Escape: The Room
1: Click the pillow pick up the two items
2: Go to the drawer and take those items click the curtain and retrieve items
3: Click at the bottom of the drawer and underneath there are more items
4: Click under the bed. Once under the bed collect the items. Hint: there's more. Click on the far right under the bed, to get the 9. You'll need this.
5: Make sure you're on "use item" and hold the knife in the middle of the trashcan then release.
6: Use the gold key you find to open the top drawer. Then go to the chest and in this order from left to right enter the numbers 3-9-0-5-1. Use the other key on the chest now.
7: Change setting to "about items"
8: Click your radio and hit the tiniest grey dot on the lower left-hand corner silencing the music. It is important that the music is turned off for the next steps.
9: Return the radio by clicking the box it was in your inventory.
10: Change setting back to "use items"
11: Using the second key you found (which is fancier looking than the gold car key looking one) goes to the chest at the foot of the bed- remember to have the music off!
12: Repeat the number code from before on the chest, and use the key again.
13: Use the knife on the chest, like you did with the trashcan, and get the axe.
14: Take the axe go over to the door use it on the door
Congratulations, you've won.
I can't open the chest.
Impressive graphics but there are some UI screws, such as having to guess that you can look under the foot of the bed and not just the head. That, combined with the fake key and having to use the knife in weird places made this unfriendly to play and ultimately degraded this from a puzzle game to a guessing game.
