v NG 1.1.14 is now the current version- it fixes one instance of music not playing, and removes leftover bold text from the days when Halsaban still had text-based movement.

Warning- even more reading ahead!

In 1.1, several changes were made. Taking suggestions and complaints made by you guys (Halsaban is revamped, such that no text commands are required anymore. Rataan still requires them, though), and putting in ideas I had (a New Game Plus feature with additional scenes, an additional game in the casino), as well as other things, I'm proud to present the penultimate version of the game. Think of it as the Final First Fantasy, if you will. Or don't.

Anyway, this is the final version except for bug fixes and the like.

All the following is taken from the last version's comments, edited in places.

Story- Days before the story begins, Terra Machina, a dark organization with a deathgrip on the world, suddenly fell. Nobody knows why.
Nor are you able to even recall your name, or where you came from...

General- Development on this RPG started in late October 2009. It grew bigger than what I intended it to actually be, but there's nothing wrong with that... this game offers over an hour and a half of gameplay, unlockables, and choices that affect dialogue, with no less than ten endings.

Music- Fourteen Newgrounds artists contributed 25 tracks to the game. And with one exception, all of the music is available in the Audio Portal. It is, to me, amazing that I managed to fit this all in in 10 MB with pretty decent quality. I tried to spread the love around in the audio credits (giving preference to people whose songs didn't make the lucky 11 last time), but since the limit seems to be 11, here's a list of what I couldn't fit in and their IDs so you can go and find them (You can also unlock all songs in an in-game Music Player).

Battle of Supremacy- masterhappyboy 306568
Sea of Elegance- ChaotixMachine 295857
Impact Rain- Arnas 306636
Grass Dreams- roensb 314601
Black Death Ray- xerochi 316966
Synchronicity - DisconnectedFromGame 332371
Silent Land- AndieCiambotti 254258
Normal Cool- Feninja 335011
ZMX- HyperFreak92 (Wesley Boynton) 331615
Tension- ZENON 43772
Halsaban City Theme - Koori-Kun 444001
All songs below are mine:
First Fantasy Theme- 350468
Dying Regrets- 350512
Win!- 350973

Of the above, special thanks goes to Koori-Kun- both Battle Theme IV and the Halsaban Theme were made specifically for this game! Thanks!

Art- Very huge thanks to KatRaccoon, the character artist, for helping me make this way better than it would have been otherwise, and for putting up with all my reminders that she passed the deadlines :P

Other stuff- If you encounter any bugs or glitches, I would like to hear about it. Send me (Bcdefg123) a PM or something, and I'll fix it ASAP. Include as much info as possible, please.

In all due honesty, I haven't played the Newgrounds version yet, as I've mostly stuck to the site where I first found it, Andkon. While I have no doubts that no matter where it is, the game itself is always good, which one is or has been most recently updated? I thoroughly enjoy playing it, however I haven't beaten it yet, as the second encounter with the three TM guards after defeating the TM boss always seems to get the better of me. I'd rather not ask for assistance as it seems both insulting to the excellent gameplay and amateur to my accomplishments already made in this game, but is the method for beating the three completely random, requiring you to just be lucky, or would you have to fight a bit to get a good enough sense of who has what weapon?

All in all though, I would also have to say this game was thoroughly made, while it is, sadly, short compared to most games I've played, no game, no matter how long, seems to hold a candle to the experience from the gameplay of this. While I can only imagine the thought, time, and process of creating this game, and it more or less would be either impossibly selfish, or incredibly hopeful to wish for a sequel, I can't honestly say how much I've enjoyed this game from just my first playthrough, even if it isn't complete. So, with this rather long review coming to a close...

My Gratitude for such a wonderful game.

The latest version can be found both here and on my website (check my profile). Andkon hosts 1.1.10 while Newgrounds and my website host 1.1.14. I don't know if there's a surviving changelog (unfortunately), but the changes are likely very minimal.

To ace the TM fight, you need to pay attention to who has what weapon. Each turn, you'll find out who possesses one of the three weapons. Keep that in mind as you find out who has the others ones, then strike when you're ready. You can also rely on guessing if you wish, but that's a good way to lose.

Thank you for the kind comments! While I'd like to do another RPG and put all the things I've learned in the three years since FF to the test, I don't currently have anything planned due to several factors - I have a job now, I'm graduating college by the end of the year and need to figure out my life path, the fact that I'm now focused on a (non-RPG) game that was supposed to only take two weeks but dragged on for the better part of a year (it really doesn't want to work), and other personal reasons. I've messed around with stuff, but with everything else I have to do, I always seem to get shiny new ideas and scrap what I have in favor of those :P

Never say never though - I'd like to see myself finally pull one together as much as you would.

Thanks again for the review! - Brian
