I disagree, I think that this conversation has merit in this thread. As for this thread being solely about posting character artwork, you should probably remember that this is a reappropriated art thread, and became an activity thread through user activity.

To the furry, you don't understand the point of this thread. Maher already stated that it's not a request thread, but he didn't fully state WHY artists participate in this thread (and do so quite regularly). We do it for a distinct purpose; to compare ourselves to other artists, and see the sheer amount of differences from one artist's style to another on the same subject matter. It's more of a collaboration on difference, a study on variety.

People don't draw for the sake of drawing. It takes a very specific kind of person to do that, and they're more often then not either a toddler or heavily invested in modern art galleries. Asking someone, in this thread, to draw something for you while not offering the customary initial drawing in return doesn't just defeat the purpose of this thread, but it's actually quite insulting. You're telling someone that your idea is worth hours of their time, hours that could be spent honing their craft or (let's be honest here) playing videogames and insulting strangers on YouTube.

Maher, mostly your initial response, you have to remember that people can't automatically know all the quirks of this forum at first. It's a learning process we all go through, and belittling someone for making an honest mistake is nothing short of unhelpful and pretentious. Have patience, and remember that visitors are best encouraged (it's the regs you have to keep a close eye on). The Art Forum earned quite a nasty reputation a few years back for being exactly that to newcomers.

Back to the furry. You don't have to feign interest in art, you know. It takes quite a while to get any good at it, and nows as good a time as any to gracefully back out of this caustic conversation. If you're legitimately interested, though, I recommend using pen, paper, and perusing this excellent introduction to art by forum member lovingthedark.
