Wow, Penny Arcade guys are really stepping it up. I knew they had a charity, but their own expo? I even heard they were making their own video game. I'm curious to how bigger they will get.

And as for the flash portal, I admit it's unfair to have copyrighted characters in fan movies overshadow original works, but I suppose that's how it works.

It takes time for people to get into something new, and a lot of times, people don't want to use time for that. When they recognize something they are familiar before, such as video game characters, it may catch their interest easier. I am proud of my Sonic trilogy, but I am worried about the outcome of my more original future works. That's how things works I suppose, because it takes time to build up a fanbase for something never seen before.

Perhaps there could be a certain recognition feature for the original/different works?

yeah i have to admit i just look at the icons and decide whether to watch em or not, if a movie seems to get high scores (like thwomps) then ill check them out otherwise i dont bother with something with a 3.8 unless it seems to appeal to me.

Critics, fans, and end-users have been making this statement about popular culture since the dawn of time. I'm pretty sure there's nothing you can do about it. It's just human nature. I suggest you stick to 2 or 3 crowd-pleasers and a slew of underdogs each day. Ideally stuff that has been pushed off the Portal page.

But don't feel like it's your responsibility to somehow make the masses have better taste. You can't do it, it won't work. All you can do is hand out exposure to the movies you feel deserve it. If one or two cheap shots per day helps further this goal by boosting overall front-page attendance, well, that's your call.

I think i know how to fix this, put a button on the home page that picks a random movie from a list of front page quality movies. people will click it not knowing what they are going to get. It could even be programed to balance out the numbers of views for each submission :P

I have a complaint,one fucking complaint about the frontpage

RadioTubeClock has made a movie called Advanced Robotics and submitted it,it got front page for less than a few hours during the night giving it a crappy exposure then it got replaced by D4ilytoons #331(which wasen't so great of a flash).Also Sonic:Nazo Unleashed PT3,one of the most awaited flashes in NG alphas,got submitted a week ago,it didn't get front page while it got 2nd best of the week(Blockhead:Episode 10 did got 1st) and daily feature.

I think some major things should be done about front page,because it seems all lame flash makers like IllWillPress(make lame gothic hentai to make all 12 years old vote 5) get front page easily while some worthy flashes dosen't even get it for one day.

I agree with you actually, lots of people just come here and look for either something with boobs, or also just stuff really popular, and nobody ever gives the little guy a chance. Myself i usually look for movies with action or a good story, lately i've looked for those and have skipped much... actually i recall looking at the new aladdin 3510 movie and saying "eh ill bet its ok, ill watch it some other time" but .. wel that was a mistake now wasnt it :P

so yeah peoples, dont watch everything on front page, but look at at least 2 or 3? i do now :D

To Answer Your Question Tom, Before I Really Got Into Newgrounds, I Would Just Check The Frontpage, And If I Did Not See Anything Of Interest(Awesome Games, Funny Videos, Etc). I Would Move On To Other Sites.
But Now I Hardly Ever Look At Other Sites, Newgrounds Is Like My Home, Whenever Im Not Doing Anything, I Get On Newgrounds.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but is the chat gonna be finished soon, or is it done yet? It's been in the "almost done" stage for over a month now.

I wish i could go to a giant game expo, we did have one in Australia but it wasn't really much. Though we were the first to try out the Wii before release :D

Listen, theres something going on. around newgrounds latley, there has been lots of chain mail going around. it is posted on games/movies and even sent to individual users (such as myself) and yeah its really starting to get annoying. i know this has nothing to do with the topic im replying to but please we need to do somthing about this. please respond or help or something...
