Long story short, I'm not giving up on this whole digital painting thing. I've been experimenting with different colors and layers, all trying to make some headway. I'm getting there, but slowly. Here's my latest drawing. Any suggestions / criticisms are welcome, I'm only trying to get better.

i also think you should make the shading a little darker though.

Thanks, I agree on the darker shading, I'll keep it in mind next time. And for the stick, it's just kind of there for the crow to be on, so I didn't care much for it =P.
For now, all of my stuff is done in PS, but I'm going to try and do Painter soon.

New trial. This time I went with an apple. I think this is my best one yet, but it's still not "good". I think I'm gonna stick with fruit though, I like the shapes of them. What do you think?
This time, I am attempting metal. I think it is easier than I thought it would be, but it is still crap. This was looking good until I got to the top of the helm and realized no matter how much I tried, it would turn out awry, so I will continue it later. I am, however, pleased with the rest of it.
The bird has a nice texture. The apple was good because you used a bunch of differen colors and values (I like drawing fruit too) . The metal has nice light play on it. Keep it up!

Thanks everyone for your comments, I really appreciate them. Seriously, it keeps me wanting to draw. Although school is closing in, I'm gonna keep drawing things from references and such, but I would eventually like to cross into concept-ish landscapes. More to come!
Just practicing a bit of shading. I'm not pleased with it myself, but I'm getting used to the brush settings a bit more. However, I like how the background color works in.
