I'd love to be a voice actor, I can do many variations on deep voices, cartoony voices, and so on.

My favorite one to do is the "totally over the top douchebag narrator."

Indeed. I definitely don't expect that I'll get an awesome job from the start, but then again, that's not usually how life goes in GENERAL. I just want to start doing that kind of profession PERIOD, because I know I would enjoy myself.

I'm not gonna go into details about why you're way ahead of yourself with choosing a career already, but I will tell you something I've learned from experience.

People your age are notorious for seeing something done professionally (Their hero playing guitar well on stage, martial artists doing amazing things with their bodies, etc) and decide that they want to one day reach that level of brilliance.

A very large number of them simply start up, get to a hard part, then fail, and of course, give up.

What I think has happened is that you've seen a few Anime movies and seen a 'Behind the scenes' segment from a DVD and it's hit you with that professional desire to make money by doing something as easy as speaking into a microphone.

Don't get me wrong, I am glad you're at least a bit pro-active about it, but you'd better put some serious fucking research into everything that being a career voice artist involves.

I'm talking about accent training, pro audio equipment, references, learning lines, all that jazz.

For example, if you pick a performance related career, something unfortunate could happen and you could lose your voice, then BAM, career lost. Do you even have a backup?

I could go on, but I'll leave these points with you.

I'm fully aware of what you are talking about; getting ahead of myself can be very dangerous, and I do indeed need to make sure I have a backup career to fall back on. Nevertheless, I am quite aware that professional voice acting is a lot more than just speaking into a microphone, but I am willing to do what is necessary to prepare myself. I know it sounds like I'm trying to "be the hero of the day", but if I don't keep a positive attitude about it, there's a ZERO percent chance I'll get anywhere regarding this dream. There will be sacrifices, there will be hard times (we all have them), but I want to do what I can so I'm ready to face them.

Umm, I'm a bit confused. Isn't that one of the main purposes of a job is to get money? Let's face it, if someone came up to me and offered me a job that paid over 100k, and was legal, morally, and ethically sound, I would suck up my pride and do it. Sometimes money/benefits are the only drive for some jobs. Insurance these days are expensive when you pay for it without a group plan. Besides, what one person wont do, somoene else will. I would suggest followign your dreams, but at the same except reality on the given situation.

Sometimes doing something you love just isn't enough to survive. Alot of artists, before they make it big usually, probably worked in a store, factory or "other" means of earning money. I'm sure you've seen eight mile.

I hate to contradict you, but it seems as though a majority of the responses on the rpevious two pages are actually pretty insightful if not at least enlightening. but hey, you can't please everyone.

For the first time in my life, I have seen a profession that I want, that I yearn for, a job that I would : be willing to sell my soul for. Not only that, but it's the first time I've ever seen a job and thought, "You know? At where I'm at now, I could actually reach that goal."

At where your at now? Hold up, your only a minor animator on a flash site and no "big names" know about you. Sure, if one day you get a lot of different minor roles then you could eventually be a big time voice actor.

Also, everyone has a job that they'd sell their soul for, and guess what? IT CHANGES. In kindergarten you probably wanted to be a Fireman or something. Now that your 16, you want to do something that has to do with your favorite hobby(well one of them). So you don't know for sure if you're really going to want to do this in 10 years.
